I am surprised how come you decided to come to Canada on a work permit without any health insurance taken from your home country!!!

The OP is already in trouble, instead of helping him out not sure what is being proved here. Not sure if moderators need to intervene.

Any good company would normally provide health coverage to bring an IT professional here. Absence of such benefit shows that OP is employed with a company that does fraudulent Work Visas

Could any one please suggest me where I can get some assistence for my general medical check ups. Please direct me to any community center where they provide the health checkups free. I really need to this info.

Thanks in advance.

emergency health coverage can be bought for the 3 months.

From Ontario Health Insurance Plan website

Eligibility
Ontario residents are eligible for provincially funded health coverage (OHIP). To be eligible for Ontario health coverage you must :

be a Canadian citizen or have immigration status as set out in Ontario's Health Insurance Act, and make your permanent and principal home in Ontario, and
be physically present in Ontario 153 days in any 12-month period.

OHIP coverage normally becomes effective three months after the date you establish residency in Ontario. The ministry strongly encourages new and returning residents to purchase private health insurance in case you become ill during the OHIP waiting period.

------------------------------------------

So workpermit holders has to go with private insurance.

Right?

People on Work Permits locked to employers get OHIP after 6 months..

Open work permit people like folks who come on student visa and get WP after their studies are not eligible for OHIP

Walk in clinics charge 40$ for non ohip patient. The charge is fixed..
If it is a serious matter i suggest u go to a walk in clinic right away.

We are on WP/Open WP (spouse of WP holder gets OWP) and got OHIP coverage and health card after 3 month of our landing. In fact got health card one week before 3 months completed. You can apply for health card any time after your landing (WP or PR) and they will issue health card when you reach your 3 months timeline.
