Hi Everyone,
I just got married last month in India. I am planning to file for my wife. I would like to know the procedure. I am a canadian citizen.
i have few questions.

1) my wife does not have a passport, we have just applied for it. will take at least a month. In mean while, i would like to start up the process. can i start without her passport?

2) how much money do u have to show the government in this process?

3) I dont have a job now. is it a bad idea to file without a job? should i wait?

4) when i do, should i file from canada or india? do i have to hire a consultant or lawyer?

Any advice are Welcome.
Thank you for your time.

First get down on paper all of the circumstances that led to the marriage. That means visiting the girls family and conducting an engagement ceremony. Then preparations for the marriage. Invitations etc., Then the ceremony. Get all of these with pictures, expenses and the locations where it was held and the meetings that you had with the girl and all of the details associated with it. If it is through correspondence, then the paper work. Both of you should have to memorize the same story and incidents, time and people with names. No slip ups.

1) Get the passport first. You can start to prepare but cannot submit it till all of the details needed are filled in and IT IS COMPLETE.

2) See their web site. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/index.asp
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse.asp
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse-apply-how.asp
Look under "I" for India : http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/apply-where.asp#i See where they want it sent.

3) You do file, and as early as you can.

4) As a Canadian Citizen, you can file from anywhere. But be thorough in checking the application. Also inform the CHC in India that you have gotten married to.... and also send them an invitation as a proof of doing the same.

Congrartulations.

Freddie.

Very VEry important part of your file will be Questionnaire section - Think twice before you put information. try to be sort and very clear. - pls stay away from LONG CONFUSING ARTICLE

Also, all dates should be match and followed by order FEW IMPORTANT DATES (first day of meeting and place, first visit to family, engagement date, wedding date and honeymoon) back up with photographs.
U HV TO BE VERY CAREFULL TO EXPLAIN YOUR SITUTAION SINCE U HAVE VERY SHORT DURATION.

No they dont take CD's - u need to send Photos in hard copy. dont send them all... pick and choose, i would say max around 20 pics.. not more than that. Put them in order with Yellow Sticky Notes. (by reading your all comment i can say THE PHOTOS IS THE ONLY STRONGEST TOOLS you have to prove your relationship)-
