Critical illness insurance is very critical, to people esp. of Desi or African or Chinese origin, as eating of fried items, soy sauce, beef, lack of excercise will ensure that Desi's will be less healthier than the other Gora's and may suffer from Heart attack , Cancer , Diabeties and the like.

When I was in Canada, critical health insurance from a company was very costly (not worth the premiums as even if you save the premiums, you will get a war chest in 10 years). However, I did contact a Gora broker and his quote was very low, which led me to think if it was real.

I would surely go with critical illness insurance, if it was affordable.

Good luck.

For me it's coming out to be under 30$ per month for "critical illness plus" with return of premium if I don't use it, also this includes 50% coverage of second event.

To me it sounds good but still not sure if there is any catch, as in most of the cases you get to see the real picture later when you submit claim.

$ 30 per month is nothing.
Just go for it.
It is very essential to have. You will have lots of peace of Mind.

For a desi lifestyle, critical illness health insurance is very much required.

What is the coverage like ? $ 100,000 ?

Your declarations should be honest and match whatever you told your doctor and whatever it says on your records. When a diagnosis of any critical illness is made, they will ask for medical records from your doctor. If there is discrepancy, it will go against you. It is better to go for a policy that asks for a medical examination rather than just ticking off some statements about your health condition and then insurance company claiming you made false statements in your application and denying your claim. People do not understand some medical terminology and they tick off some statements in ignorance, get policy and then they later get denied when the claim is made.

Agree with you..

Don't have anything to hide, also they are going to do medical test and premium will be based on that.

If its Post-Claims Underwriting policy DON'T go for it. They are almost always scams, and use every loophole in the book to DENY you coverage.

Pre- Existing clause, however minor is often used as an excuse to deny you coverage. If you just go to a doctor for blood pressure checkup, they will say you had ahigh BP and lied about it, so will deny you coverage, when you make a claim. A slight change in your medication, will also be held against you :(

http://www.moneysmartsblog.com/post-claims-underwriting/

If you get Cancer, then some totally unrelated small medical condition, which has NOTHING to do with Cancer will be held against you, if you don't disclose it ! When you fill the hundreds of confusing questions they ask you to fill up, even a slight or honest or minor mistake, while filling the form will be held against you.

You literally have to sit with your doctot to fill up these insuarnace forms. They delibrately make it vague, ambiguous and confusing to FOOL you and to force you to make a mistake. All you have to do is answer one medical question wrong and you are TOAST !
