I bought a home in Jul2009. I am a second buyer for this home. After 6-7 months, i have got a somebody's mail in my mail box. The name was of somebody but address was mine. The mail was from TD insurance. I have opened that mail and i was shocked!!
It was a home insurance renewal notice. Somebody has a home insurance on my home. Immediately i spoke with TD home insurance, and they said it is NOT typographical mistake and they need to investigate it. Please note that I too have home insurance with TD. They have asked me for purchase agreement which i submitted. Then they asked for Title search, which i submitted.
I have contacted my lawyer and realtor. They also confirmed my name on this property every where like MLS, CITY and title
Now TD is asking for DEED which i do not have and I do not know what it is. Can somebody advise me following:
1. What is deed?
2. Do i need to register police complaint or any other legal actions?
3. Will legal action make my house's history dirty and will i have a problems in selling that?
4. How could i investigate the matter myself?

i dont have much knowledge but may be its not a fraud and may be that person just forgot to cancel the home insurance ?
If the letter was not addressed to you, won't it have been easier if you'd have just returned it to sender sayng - No such person.
I too get the odd letter sometimes, but that's what I do.
It may a technical glitch in TD's computer system. We see such glitches all the time.
On a side note, recently I used internet banking and was able to make a payment into my credit card, which I had cancelled a year ago. Well, it was a technical glitch, the system should not have accepted my payment
Now that the matter has gone that far, ensure that it comes to a happy end.
As regards a deed it is just a document that specifies your legal right on th e property. Shouldn't the title search suffice.
If you don't get the matter resoved quickly, contact the ombudsman at TD Insurance

It may be a just mistake from TD but I’m surprise with TD that they could not figure it out, how come they have two policies running on same house? Instead of asking you a DEED or other documents they should first check at their side.
Nothing big deal, keep calling TD, ask them to resolve by them self, escalate your call to higher level.
Professionally and firmly inform them that if they don’t help you resolve this problem then you will look at other places for business. (In most cases this trick works)
