Hello,

I am currently a student in US pursuing my MS in Computer Science and on F-1 Visa.

I had couple of queries and hope somebody may have some answer, advice, suggestion on my action plan.

I have been working part time as System Administrator in the university for last 3 years. Can I apply for Canadian PR on the basis of that in skilled worker category?

I have my cousin( Father's sister's real daughter as PR in vancouver, does it help? or make me eligible for another PR category?)

I have read a little bit and came to know that Canada has different provinces , so do I need to pick some province which have their own PR rules. If yes then which one suits me( from IT field's perspective and ease of immigration the best).
If I manage to get PR , my next goal would be to bring my parents from India at earliest. Can it be possible?

Also, is it possible for my father to work here in Canada in thermal power plant . He has just retired from the top position in thermal power plant in India?
Can he apply for PR? I know that he doesn't score much on points scale because of his age.

Thanks for looking and hoping for some feedback.

PS: Right know I have not much idea about how thing works in Canada , Only know that it takes years to get Green card in US as compared to Canada.

1. In IT related occupations, you need to be at Managerial level to become eligible to file for PR ( without Arranged Employment). That requires several years of experience. Since you have only 3 years, you may not be qualified under that category.

2. Your cousin in Vancouver can't make you eligible.

3. You can pickup any province as your initial destination. However, some provinces have signed an agreement with federal Government to nominate some applications for every year so that province gets some immigrants directy to fill the labour shortage. You may visit the government of Canada web site and spend some time on it under immigration section.

4. If you can manage your PR, you can bring your parents to Canada at later stage.

5. Your father can work in Canada if he has a Work Permit or PR. If he gets enough points ( currently 67), he can apply for PR

Spend more time with " Government of Canada web site", to get more information.

Thanks Gurram for the reply,

Gurram , I looked at the occupational structure but my work area falls under category 2281( System Administrator ) and not under Managerial position. Please correct if I am wrong.

Also I am working in this position since feb2007 for 20 hours a week so I think if continuous employment is to be counted then I should lie between 1-2 years.

Again, if the chances of rejection are high and I should wait for some years and gain some experience that will be fine too.

Thanks for suggestions.

hi,
As per current 38 occupation list you need 1 yr work experiance in 0213 NOC to be eligible for PR,

if u have experiance in another NOC that can give u points.

CIC palning to change NOC list periodically, as per current news till 18 april 2010 they are conducting survey to change the occupation in demand list. they can add or deduct occupation from the list.
also go through cic.gc.ca and canadavisa.com/forum. it might be helps u.

best of luck,
Hakuna matata.

Gurram , I understand what you meant. I think you mentioned about this list.

How often do they update this list!!

Your Part time employment may not provide you with enough experience. But some employers might consider a 2000 hour work in a year as one years service experience. So, keep working away. See if the University will provide you with a designation and a salary commensurate with your experience in a letter form to support your claims. It could be useful after you finish your education if you work right there or for any other employer.

A years Experience in your current profession is the minimum requirement for Immigration. See the application criteria for that. Since it will take longer than a year to get through the process, you should have enough base to build upon, if and when you decide to set yourself here. Then again, continue right where you are till the markets open up here.

A check through the next website will tell you enough about the value of such support you are seeking from your cousin sister in BC. You might never need it, but bank it for the time being as available. Also obtain a set of paper forms and fill them in and start the process slowly and see what else is required, rather than look for all of the materials all at once.
http://www.visabureau.com/canada/points-test.aspx

Hit BC PNP in the Google and get to know more about the BC PNP programs. See their website and get to know more from their website also. The help you have there might become necessary if an arranged employment could be obtained for you there after your graduation. It might be a speedier route. About an Year or so.

You can like wise process yours Dad's Data in the evaluation sheet and see where he stands, but he can surely enter as a sponsored Immigrant after your entry. But it will take FOUR to Five years after your entry or GOOD THREE Years after your first year of work here in Canada and establishing your self.

In regards to his employment, he must bring in all of his educational materials right from the schooling onwards to his work experience all of it in Chronological order with SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS and any certificates etc., and can study here and get Power Engineering Qualifications which will get him an entry into his field here and can manage any Hospital, buildings and Power plants there in without any qualms and he might start to enjoy work all over again here in Canada. It all depends on his health and aptitude.

But he surely can visit Canada any time he wants and get to see things for himself and collect all of the details that he will need in person.

You also have time to do all of the initial spade work before you enter here.

Freddie.

Freddie,

Thanks a lot for your detailed and thoughtful reply. I will look at the BC PNP program too.

I did calculate before for myself and I do fall over 67 right now and for my father too if real sister's daughter is considered any relation then he also scores 68 for skilled worker category or else he falls under the score right now.

I also really liked your point that to keep working at present place and wait for time for things to open up.

One last question, how often do they update the requirement list? or its random and also the work experience counts till the timing of application or the time when they ask for those documents( which can be later during the processing process ).

Thanks,

Dracs
