I am planning to immigrate to Toronto in July 2010 with family(3 members). As required by Canada Govt, I need to show CAD$17,000 as Proof of Fund (POF) at the POE.
I have read through many posts here and feel that a bank statement taken from Indian Bank is discouraged as POF instead the recommedations is to carry the entire amount as TC's.
1. Please suggest the maximum allowable amount that can be carried as TC's out of India ?
2. Can I carry the entire CAD$17,000 out of India as TC's?
3. Do I need to declare at the India Airport that on the same ?
4. Do I need to show Previous Years Form 16's etc as Tax Clearance ?
Please help. Appreciate an early response.
Regards,
GK
Govt of India rules permit you to take out the equivalent of US$100K per person. When I came, nobody at the airport asked me how much money I was carrying, not was I question on Form16/tax acknowledgements.
Yes, you can carry the entire $17K as TCs. You'll only need to declare this at the Canadian immigration counter.
Good luck with your landing.
Thanks Aziz for your immediate response.

Since I may need to show $17K as Proof of funds at the POE.
What would be a good suggestion for carrying the amount
a) Max amount as DD (self named), remaining as TC's & about 1K in CAN$ Cash
b) Max as TC's, & about 1K in CAN$
Any suggestions ?
Do we have to also declare any Indian Rupees that we may have along with the Forex at the Canada POE ?
