http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/826283--hospital-worker-was-taunted-sexually-harassed?bn=1

(Toronto Star)
“Get up, give me your seat and go make me some stew,” one white technologist shouted, while standing threateningly “over” her, Walker recalled in an interview with the Star. In another instance, a different technologist showed Walker racially tinged cartoons while she was performing a CT scan on a patient, a procedure that carries a high margin of error.

Those two events were confirmed by the report.

Next, when she kept her composure, the technologist sang in her ear, Walker says, and followed her into another room to try again to rattle her.

Another imaging employee, Walker's mentor, had earlier massaged her shoulders without consent and said he wished she wasn't wearing a bra, the report confirmed.

That same employee who demanded she make stew, threw Walker's credentials badge on the floor and as she bent down to pick it up, whipped a bottle cap at her legs.

To those who say that racism is non existant or minimal in canada, these are true facts.
Of course, if you are a IT person, then racism will be non existant as all yuor fellow workers are desi's and you will be managed by native PM's who may not know what IT is.
These events happen typically in govt. sector, health, insurance, manufacturing, construction and the like sectors.
Many may see this as a harassment case, but it all boils down to racism.
very sad reality.

Peace by TK

Racism and discrimination is a worldwide phenomenon and Canada is not an exception. In India it is regional, cast and religion based, in Middle East it is religion based and in lots of countries it is color and race based. That’s how the world is, if you can’t change anything thn accept it as a way of life.

Racism is everywhere. Infact, I think its nothing but a smaller version of discrimination. Discrimination can be based on any factor - age, color, size, financial status, gender.....etc.

The same would have been titled as "sexual harrassment", if it was not race based. I am not condoning any act. I am not denying that it happens. I am not saying that when it happens with me, I accept it or don't feel bad. This has led to people living in "same communities / ghetto". A little India, little Italy or China town everywhere......is a example of the same. In fact, even the "goras" live like that when out of their own countries. They live the EXPAT life in Asian countries. Only moving around with their own kind. International schooling for their children etc.

Do you know of how TOURISTS are treated in India? Women raped? Harrassed? Cheated? Would that be racism? Or would that just be another crime in so many?

Even as I write this, I can view how it will be received. Its not denying or contesting what is written by the OP. Its just a viewpoint. Racism/discrimination happens everywhere - in Australia, Canada, America and even in India.

I agree that racism is everywhere... yet nowhere is it as denied (officially and in the minds of people) as here. Multiculturalism is a state policy and promise to residents. I think it is important to be aware not only that racism exists but also the forms they manifest in.

So who said that everyone in Canada is fair, reasonable, honest, tolerant of other skin colors, yada, yada yada?

If you thought it was, you were (and are) wrong. As for the story about racism, it doesn't make big sense because wrong things happen all the time, all over the world. Canada is no exception.

You have to live in Utopia, if you want a perfect society.

By the way, for those who don't know, please use spell check before you post. That way, readers don't have to wrestle with your misspelled words and keep guessing what you want to convey.

I love Canada and Canadians. Forget racism. India had always been more racist.

I love it when people find reasons to score a point that there english is better or more refined , that too in a forum of new immigrants where members tend to be from different background .

I think the chinese community is more helpful, the only thing they ask newcomers is to take a Canadian name and do not bother of any language .

moderators i also think its not good manners to comment of others language skills (english), especially when canadian government is proud to offer services in more than 12 languages,
and please do not give reasons that it (better english) helps in finding a better job, as usually all members on this forum are adult and understand what is good for them

also there s an american saying ' too may chief s not many indians ' ask any american of it

(if anyone finds any language issues , sorry i am posting this from my mobile)
