If a person is a landed immigrant and getting pension in India from Indian Govt.
Will he be required to

1. Declare that income while filing return in Canada
2. Pay any kind of tax on that income in Canada

Please advice.

You can call CRA and find about the same.

However, as per the Taxation Treaty between India and Canada http://www.treaty-accord.gc.ca/text-texte.asp?id=102409#top_of_page it seems that the pension income from India may not be included in Canadian Income and taxed in India only.

Read article 18 from the above link :

ARTICLE 18

Pensions

1. Pensions arising in a Contracting State shall be taxable only in that State.

2. Pensions shall be deemed to arise in a Contracting State when the payer is that State itself, a political subdivision, a local authority or a resident of that State.

Thanks for the info. This makes clear that if the pension is taxed in India then it will not be subjected to any tax in Canada.

I am asking on behalf of someone else

Will there be any tax on the money(GPF etc) the person gets during the retirement. In my case it is quite a big amount (Equivalent to $50000)
That amount is not taxed in India when the person retires (I am not sure if the tax is already deducted on that amount during the service time).
