my experience as immgrant in canada says people who are having a decent job in india or anywhere else should think hundred times before moving to canada in present scenario becuz right now job market is at it's worst position. So think thousand times before leaving your present job just for moving to canada instead wait for good times and then migrate this is one of the worst times for jobs and so for migrating to canada.
fortunately i came on leave and did not leave my job in india before coming here and i am going back to join my job in india. I am happy for that and want others also not to take the risk.
Best of Luck
it is normal to have 8% national unemployment rate as an average, but has dipped to 13-15% odd times what we call "recession". usa has average of 4% unemployment rate

I am not agree with you james...If you have really experienced something then you should give right direction/solution to new immigrants rather stoping them.
You should suggest them like which skills are in demand or How to prepare...what homework are needed.
I know most of the un-employed people don't deserve the job (Canadian white included).
3 in the 10 persion are graduate in canada

A person is never more on trial than in a moment of excessive good fortune.
James is just posting his view and impressions and I think that freedom is obligatory on any messageboard. At the same time, others who hold different or contrary views should be just as welcome to post their opinions.
As an aside to Jake, I do not know whether you did the right thing or not by coming here without resigning, because the consequences of such moves cannot be justifiably postulated. No one can say for sure, and that includes you, what the outcome would have been the outcome had you resigned from your job before coming here. Who knows? Maybe you would have struggled harder because there was nothing to go back to. Maybe you would have upgraded yourself since there would have been no options. Maybe you could have got a job even otherwise only if you had stayed longer, which you couldn't because there is a limited time you have in your hands. At the same time, one cannot also say that you would have been happy even if you were successful in getting a job right away. Happiness my friend is a state of mind. I was one of the fortunate ones who got a job within 3 mths of landing here. And I thought I would be happy. But I am not! But the reasons are different.
Canada/US are all Bombay ka laddoo...jo khaya woh bhee roya...jo nahin khaaya woh bhee roya...something like marriage...LOL

You are talking about burning the bridge. YES !! It is very difficult to start from zero unless one knows there is nothing to fall back upon.
