i am returning with my two kids to canada this august after a 16 month stay in india ,i have canadian passport ,just wanted to know what to expect at the airport regards to immigration and what other things should i bear in mind
as i am travelling alone with my two yr and eight yr old

Not knowing if you are making a bee line or a circuitous holiday, if you can visit a Health clinic that specializes tropical diseases, they will prescribe the medications that you can use to avoid any illnesses that you might have contracted there. One such medication is for Mosquitoes. Some will even advice you not to take them too. So, it is your choice. But do see a specialist.
Go to the nearest Police Station and get a Police clearance certificate, if you will ever need one you will have it on you.
If your kids were studying in India, I suspect that one might be doing that, get proper certificates from the respective school/s for entry into the next grade here. Schools as you know start in September here.
All the medical records, needles taken etc., from the Family Physician.
Declare all the monies that you will be carrying, the booze and the smokes too.
There are a whole list of things that you might be bringing here and make a list in duplicate and carry it with you.
Carry your Passports and PR cards or the Travel permits and the tickets and a credit card.
You are not traveling alone, you have your two kids with you and a whole lot of other travelers to tag along with. So you have very good company. Enjoy theirs too. Carry a few loonies and twonies with you for the baggage carts at Pearson airport.
If you have a place to go to and some one to pick you up, you are all set.

I dont think they stamp the date of leaving Canada. So how would they know how long you stayed outside the country.

As long as you don't carry contraband, excessive cash and any items prohibited by customs, your entry should be uneventful since you are a cdn citizen. They might ask how long you were out of the country and maybe the purpose.

India stamps both incoming and outgoing passengers' passports.

Just an extension of the thread.
Recently I had been to India for a couple of days.
How would I establish my period of stay outside Canada at the time of applying for Citizenship?
Will the Canadian Authorities refer to the entry and exit stamping of India in this case?
