My humble request you new immigrants is that, please don't ask me to give you job when you are still in India and UAE. This is asking too much. I am also new immigrant and we have struggled for one year to get job. After so much effort, we got job in our own field, till then, though we were financially well off, my husband did survival job for 3 months since sitting at home is difficult and depressing. Nobody helped us since it is not easy to help with job here.

Please come to canada, land and complete all the formalities. Join 1-2 workshop, go to HR and improve on your cv, by then you will get your SIN and PR without which you cannot join job here. I mean you put effort to get job and if you feel that, you are still unable to get job and your funds are getting over then only ask for help. When you are asking help, please be sure that, you are ready to work anywhere and any field. if you are mentally prepared to do $10 per hour job or even survivial job, then only ask me to help you. I am helping those people who are desperate to have job.

Another request is please don't leave your well established job and come to canada thinking that your job is ready on the platter waiting for you.

The real harsh truth is that, after landing in canada, don't expect to get job atleast for 6 months. Even be mentally prepared to be jobless for one year also, unless ofcourse you are ready to work in call centre and survival jobs where you are expected to lift 25-30 lbs for 8 hours with 20 minutes break twice in 8 hours. I have seen IT people getting job within 3-4 months of landing.

All immigrants have struggled initially for 1-2 years and no exception to the rule, you all have to also have to struggle. Now I am being asked to help by people who will be landing in aug and sept 2010. This is asking too much.:)

There are several reasons why people come to Canada. If some one comes to save money, then it is futile to come to Canada (with the possible exception of IT / Finance jobs/ labourer job). There are so many hidden costs here. If you earn 40K a year, they take away around 25% for income tax, cpp, Ei. Then on top of that you pay 13 % for most of the things you buy. Then comes insurance, gas, cell phone bill, internet bill, groceries, rent / mortgage, phone bill etc.. If you buy a car for $20K, you pay $2600 to the govt. as HST. If you have children, you need to pay for daycare (though the school is free is 9-3) but your work (with commuting time is from 8-6))
I found that some people are very interested in finding "their own line job". Even if you find it, you canot save any money. Your "own line" job can be a lot more less stressful, but it will not bring the riches that you had in your previous place of work (after a certain time). Besides this you will have to face a lot of challenges in your work place like cultural changes, racism etc.. (with the exception of IT as more than 80% of IT dept's are desi's and natives borns are the minority there.
The advantages here is the cold weather, ability to sponser your parents (by regular method or by crook), ability to use food bank, ability to use welfare system till you die etc..

Peace by TK

Oh! I was about to ask for help and you pushed me back by these words.:cuss:

Ok, do tell me lead to take up call centre jobs ( not the cold calling ones of commission basis), beyond this lead I wont trouble you much. Jobs location preference is near Mississauga Airport Loc. However I can make efforts to travel also.:(
