New rule introduced by CGI, toronto. It is mandatory for People of Indian Origin who receive their citizenship after June 01,2010 to surrender their Indian Passport and get it stamped as "Cancelled" with a fee of $ 168/-per peson. Now to get Indian Visa, we have to spend $168 for passport surrender plus Visa fee plus $ 20 for CGI's processing centre fee, it sucks........................ Another money making machine for govt.
Everything you noted is correct, except that the $20 processing fee is not needed
Quote:
All persons of Indian origin who acquired foreign citizenship starting June 1, 2010
* Must get their Indian passport, whether already expired or not, surrendered
* Apply in Consulate after filling relevant forms (For form click here)
* Passport will be returned to the applicant after cancellation, along with the Surrender Certificate.
* Renunciation fee of C$ 168 is required to be paid by way of DD/Money Order only drawn in the name of Consulate General of India Toronto
* Separate Miscellaneous fee of $ 20 NOT required to be paid

I just sent my passport for surrender certificate and get back by only stamp on it from Consulate General of India Vancouver
" THIS PASSPORT IS CANCELLED AS THE HOLDER HAS ACQUIRED CANADIAN NATIONALITY. THIS PASSPORT IS NO LONGER VALID AS A TRAVEL DOCUMENT OR A PROOF OF INDIAN NATIONALITY"
No Certificate is issued just take 20$ for it and postage extra. Before when we send for visa on canadian passport then they make that stamp on Indian Passport free. In my view who has cancellation stamp on indian passport they no need to worry about surrender certificate , other has to pay extra 20$ + postage. Funny thing is there not mentioned on website where we hav to sent the passport.
On website address is
i. Indian Visa & Consular Services Centres at Unit 604, 889 West Pender street,
Vancouver BC V6C 3B2
ii. #201-325 Howe Street, Vancouver, BC V6C 1Z7 Canada
iii) Indian Visa And Consular Services Centre
Unit 201-9252, 34 Avenue,
NW, Edmonton , Alberta ,
T6E 5P2
This is the new Indian Visa and Consular services collection centre, Edmonton where they refused to take my application and told me send it to Vancouver BC, but on website no mention about it.
On website you can read Effective 2nd Nov, 09 Applications for
PIO, OCI, Passport and Visa will NOT be accepted
at the consulate office, 201-325, Howe Street, Vancouver either by Mail or in Person
But for surrender certificate I hav to sent application on 201-325, Howe Street, Vancouver , which I come to know after sending email to them.
You can decide yourself for a stamp for those who will take citizenship from June 1, 2010, are required to renounce the Indian citizenship and get a surrender certificate within three months paying $168+Postage , Thanks not to pay the VFS processing fee of $19.25 PLUS tax at the time of applying for a visa or any other consular service thru VFS.
i got british citizenship and british passport back in 2000 and have had about 4 visas to visit india since then .
i don,t even have my old indian passport anymore . i don,t have my british naturalization certificate either .
