I am pretty excited to share with the forum that I got my driving experience in India recognized and am now eligible to take the road test to get a G license.
This is what made it possible: http://www.yourmaninindia.com" rel="nofollow">LINK
It is a concierge service meant for NRIs and they seem to have the right connections in government offices. I had told them that I needed a letter from RTO Bangalore authenticating my Indian driver's license. They took up my case on a "research basis", found out that what I needed to do was apply for "Driver's License Extract". They went ahead and applied for it on my behalf, procured it and couriered it to me. The entire cost to me was about Rs 3000. I took the letter to the drive test office and they accepted it. I also paid the G-test fees although I haven't scheduled it yet.
When I had gone to the RTO personally, I received a rude response from an official: "we don't issue such letters". But perhaps those immigrating from Karnataka can try asking specifically for a "driver's license extract". The legal fees payable is Rs 150.
Thanks a lot for sharing this .. Had I known this , I would have saved lot of time an money ... Hope this helps prospective readers ..

Driving Test centres were MTO handled When I appeared n cleared my G1. Girl there looked at my Indian License n waived 8 months of wait period (between G1 n G2). When my instructor booked for G2, at that time I didnot know if I were eligible for G. My Instructor didn't talk about it.
When my wife was calling to book her road test last year, rep informed her on phone that she is eligible to appear for direct G (without G2) based on her Indian Driving License. This is one time test, if failed in this G Test - she will have to go through G2. I know people coming from Gulf/Singapore have got chance to appear for G directly.
I don't know if this is norm. I know one thing that she didnot do any paper work. Yes, she did present her normal paper Indian License at the time of G1. Now she has G - which she passed in first attempt ... without appearing for G2.
