Hi Canadian Desis

I made my first landing to Toronto on 3rd Sept2008, completed the landing formalities like PR, SIN, Health card, Opening of Bank Account etc & went back to Dubai on 16th Sept 2008. I’m planning to move permanently to Calgary on Oct 1st 2010. My questions are as follows

1. Since I did not visit to Canada for little more than 2 years. Will that be a problem??
2. My PR card is valid from 25 Oct 2008 to 25 Oct 2013. Is my moving back on Oct 1st is valid??
3. I bought CAD 25000 as proof of Funds during my first landing. Now, im planning to bring CAD 100,000. Do I need to pay tax or any other charges on this amount???
4. I’m also planning to bring some Cargo as per the Goods to follow list. But this time I’m landing in Calgary not Toronto. Will thisGTF list is valid in Calgary???
I request all CDs to share their experiences on the type of questions will be asked at the immigration counter to the returning residents

Regards
Raj

No, It is not a problem. Just tell them the actual reason why you had to stay away for two years.

2. My PR card is valid from 25 Oct 2008 to 25 Oct 2013. Is my moving back on Oct 1st is valid??

Yes, as long as you meet residency requirements which you meet.

3. I bought CAD 25000 as proof of Funds during my first landing. Now, im planning to bring CAD 100,000. Do I need to pay tax or any other charges on this amount???

Not sure about this one.

4. I’m also planning to bring some Cargo as per the Goods to follow list. But this time I’m landing in Calgary not Toronto. Will thisGTF list is valid in Calgary???
Yes, they are valild but make sure that your B4 form is stamped by the officer at the port of entry you are landing.

I request all CDs to share their experiences on the type of questions will be asked at the immigration counter to the returning residents.

The officers usually asks basic questions like why you are away for such long time, what did you bring with you, do you have items to declare. Did you bring items like tobacco, alcohols, plants, food etc.

All i can say is be truthful & professional when answering. I would say also to concentrate & research more on what you would be doing after landing like searching for a place to stay, How to apply for SIN, health cards, drivers license, day care centers etc.

Good Luck...

Regards
Raj

-- If this money was not earned from any Canadian sources (and if you did not have any ties to Canada like having a house or immediate family in Canada), then you do not have to pay taxes on this amount. The SIN and the health card (during the landing visit) are not the significant ties.
