Hope everyone is well!
I need to choose between Canada and India in a short time. I'd like to hear some views from people who have some experience in IT field in canada or folks working in Montreal.
I am in Canada since earlier this year on a work-permit through my Indian employer, an established global IT MNC. I intend to settle in Canada; I have found a job in Montreal paying $73,000; I am in process of switching my work-permit over to the Montreal company, who would later help me in my PR application. My present salary in India is around 10L p.a.
My wife who is not in employment (and might be a while before she finds any job in Montreal!) and I would prefer to live in Canada for the work-culture and conveniences of a developed country. However, we were concerned about high taxes in Montreal and that this salary might not result in significant savings, considering I need to pay ($800 monthly) towards my mortgage in India and we will like to make an annual trip ($4000 per year, for two) to India.
Besides being able to live closer to parents, the other thing going for India is the buoyant job market in the IT field. If I change jobs in India now I should get a 40-50% salary raise.
However, the work-culture woes (politics, nepotism/favouritism), lack of technical career progression in most Indian companies (I do not want to take up management positions - which is invariably expected after my 9 years experience in IT), lack of work-life balance - are all major negatives making me want to remain in Canada: the experience in technology in Canada (debatably) should be richer than technical experience in India.
I'd love to hear any suggestions from people, especially who are in IT jobs in Canada and those of you, who have knowledge of taxation/expenses in Montreal, QC (we are currently in Ontario!) Thank you for your time.
Wishing everyone a happy Ganesh festival and Eid mubaraq!
go back to india.

Looks like you are on a pretty good wicket but unable to understand that you are. You want to have the cake and eat it too.
We have many people in the iT field from India struggling with jobs here.
Taxes and mortgage are part of living either here or in India but the standard of living you get here is second to none.
if you choose to go back you might start regretting it once the honeymoon is over and reality sets in.
my 2 paise
Cheers

Getting an IT Job is easier in India than Canada. Since you got a Job, Stay here for couple of years and see. If you are not trapped into mortgage and car loans, you are relatively free and can go back whenever you want.
Apply for PR stay for 3 + years after that .. get your passport and then decide which ever way you wish to .

Fido.
I agree with Fido...
Since u hv job offer in Montreal , take it stay here till you are eligible for Citizenship - then take a final decision.
