Hello All,
I am planning to go for a 1 year postgraduate diploma from college in Canada ( management related course). The reason for doing this is to get a 1 year work visa after studies and then apply for PR. Currently I am working as SAP - Technical consultant in saudi arabia (originally from India). is this a good move, what about the chances of getting a job after a canadian education. Would this be like starting from scratch or would my 7 year experience be considered after completion of my education. Also if anyone can tell me what are the hot courses which guarantee job after education I would appreciate that.
Thank you
I am not in a position to comment on whether your plans will materialise in terms of immigrating to Canada but in IMHO,
- Getting a Canadian qualification at any age is a very good idea if you want to look for work here
- Your experience might not be recognised intially when you apply for jobs but a combination of your degree and past experience is bound to give you an edge over others in the field , which I am sure will get recognition in the future.

Hi Fass2008,
Sorry about the late reply (vacation in India). Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have heard that a North American education is worth it.
What about the opportunities to work / find job after a post graduate (1 yr) degree. If anyone can suggest some of the most sort after and safest post graduate certifications that will help in getting a decent job plus assure a steady career growth, I would really appreciate that.
I already have a PMP certification so an international cert can add to my profile, SAP experince of 6 yrs plus technical MCSA certification.
Hope to see more replies.
Thank you
Being a PMP is good since it is respected in NA. SAP & MCSA is nice too. I am not a SAP guy so do not know the demand for it here. However, the following should help you land a position in Toronto and it is not in any order of preference.
1. References in the employing organization.
2. Applying during the *hiring* season.
3. Fluent verbal and written comprehension of English and I mean absolutely fluent. Need to be clear & audible while speaking. Ability to strike and hold a conversation.
4. Presentable, healthy, a pleasing personality & a GOOD sense of humour.
I have listed above the soft skills required to be employed in any managerial position. If getting in as a techie might not require the above but will make you stand out if you have the above.
Since you are in IT and it being quite an universal skill you might just get in if you are at the right place at the right time. Do not lose hope if weeks go by withouth progress.
Good Luck!!
Hi Unitz,
Thank you for your reply. I am in the phase of my career where I am crossing the line between techie and management. My primary goal at present is to get a 1 year PG from Canada in a management branch.
Now this PG should be something that compliments my previous experience and certifications along with a promising (secure) future in the Canadian job market. Since you are in Canada can you think of any such 1 year PG certification or diplomas that will achieve the above.
My english is fine and I have room for improvement too, unfortunately I am just 5.3 ft tall, I hope that does not interfere with me getting a managerial position as I cant change or improve on that.
Thank you
Zachalf,
You are doing just fine with the height and let that not be a deterrent to your job hunt success here. I don't think height ever was a factor if you have the soft skills mentioned.
I speak only from personal experience that sound IT experience from any part of the world does NOT require augmentation through a local PG course. It would be nice to have local degree BUT it is NOT a necessity. IT experience helps you save $$$ which gets siphoned off in great numbers in the local PG education.
Just have the right contacts & references & you might just do fine.
Good Luck.
31 is a very young age for studies. People study at the age of 41. Try to do a proper Post graduate Masters and not some quick course and hope to get a job. If you are in SAP try to do a proper SAP course in Canada or a Masters in Computer Science/Engg.
Do your reserach properly.
