I sold my house in the begining of 2010 due to relocation near to my job, however I lost around 2.5k in the home sale. My question is can I claim the loss under Capital Loss/ some other category in my 2010 tax returns?
I will appreciate if someone had similar experience or have knowledge (CRA link etc) and would like to share.
Hi ashedfc,
Thanks for your reply, I tend to agree with your openion.
OK, so CRA's capital loss category is for investment types of properties, not for primary residence and for sure I do not want to mess with CRA to prove my old residence as a captial property .

Doing my tax returns and checked this thread again. The CRA web site says that losses on the home sale can not be claimed under moving expenses:
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/tpcs/ncm-tx/rtrn/cmpltng/ddctns/lns206-236/219/ddct-eng.html
Looks like 'm out of luck , thanks for the help.
You can not claim losses in selling your home but you can claim the costs of selling homes as mentioned in link I provided earlier and the same link you posted today.

Thanks for your reply Pramod, acutually those costs were covered by my employer as part of my relocation .
Loss in the home sale was not substantial just thought if I could claim but CRA thinks otherwise.
