VM is dead right. In cities like Chennai, which is getting used to apartment culture say during the last 20 years, it is all the more visible. The more educated and well placed, the more selfish and self centered people are. They take all the services for granted, the tactics they adopt to escape any common work or issue is to be seen to be believed. It is this attitude of our educated middle class which emboldens the scamsters that they can get away with anything and everything.

Haha...this is one grand and good excuse that has been plastered over any Indian wrongdoing since time immemorial. Truth is - this excuse no longer applies. I tend to laugh now during the discussions when they conveniently utter this 'population' crap. By the way, population is also the 'kiya dhara' of Indians. Or, if I am missing something may be someone else from outside is responsible for this phenomena, eh?

When u compare ur basis should be same. This applies in every field.

Both these have more to do with the sharing of limited resources then culture. In India the line would always be longer then what was being given out ..... let me explain , if there were a 100 tickets to be given out, there were 200 people lined up for that .... so if you were the 150th man, the only way you were going to get is it that you cut the line.
West has seen a long period of prosperity so they know there is light at the end of "line" .... hence no need to cut the line. The day resources are limted you will see line cutting in the west.
Bribes have the same mechanics ......

I understood and still laugh. I still stick to my point that you can't hold population responsible for everything - considering there's allocation for each strata of society in India. All these scams are not due to population but the in-bred psych of corruption. Tell me when there's a high, low, and medium level corruption involve in each level of Govt., how can you blame the high population.
Trust me(your prerogative) if the Govt Is efficient then it hardly matters how big the population of the country is. Also, basic public courtesy has nothing to do with population.
