Not sure if anyone has gone through this exercise before..

I know many people after buying home/house, usually changes either Door Locks or keys or both

I recently had bad experience with renter. I rented my property & with great difficulty, finally renter agreed to vacate my house
Main reason was non payment of Rent or late payment

Anyway, now I don't any more trouble, so want to change Door Locks or keys or both

Options are
1. Just change only keys ( if possible )
2. Change both Door Locks & keys

Not sure, what will be the cost involved & what is possible
Can I do it myself or need to call Locksmith ?

Any idea how much usually Locksmith charge for doing this job ?

Thanks

Changing the lock is easy. Just get a new one from HD, Rona, Lowes anywhere and replace it. If you have multiple locks with the same key (side door, main door, garage door etc), you can ask the store to re-key it.
The cost of the lock varies from $50 to $200, all depending on what you want.

To do a re-key, without replacing the lock, you'd have to take the lock to a locksmith and get it re-keyed. Once re-keyed, they will make you a new key.
Cost - I have no clue...sorry

Hey,

I used a locksmith to change the locks to my house, and it cost us $ 50. I found him off the internet. Nice chap.

If you are considering continuing to let the space, then you could also consider an electronic keypad lock. Its got a keypad, and once a tenant leaves you can simply change the passcode. Its about $ 150 (HomeDepot) to buy, while a standard lock would cost about $ 40, but would pay for itself over time.

Good luck!
