Hi Guys,

I and my wife work at 'Yonge/Finch' which is directly connected to TTC. We are currently living downtown in my university accommodation. We are planning to buy a townhouse but we have a location dilemma:

1. Should we buy a townhouse in North York which are in the range of $450+ for a 2BR townhouse with decent furnishing ( eg: Monalisa @ Finch). The ISSUE is that for $360k, one can get a decent townhouse in Mississauga but the travel time from Mississauga will be 1hr one side and I will have to buy 2 cars.

2. Are there any better areas near North York where the real estate is comparable to Mississauga. Do people who work in North York live in Whitby, Richmond Hill?

I guess this is a very common dilemma for many people when they move from a Condo lifestyle to a townhouse outside the city. I am sort of new to Canada, hence any inputs are welcome.

Thanks

Try the townhouses, just off Parkway Forest Drive at the South East side of Don Mills & Sheppard. It's known as The Starways. It's a condominium. They are old but very well maintained.

I dont know your religion or if you have children but nowadays
Mississauga is called Miassauga
Brampton is called Singhton
Milton is called Multan

Choose your location wisely or your children will have problems in school (i know of several complaining parents of different religions living in these city having bad experiences and having to send their children to pvt school)

Toronto will probably be majority white or (Black/Italain etc depending on the pockets you go to)

Thanks for your inputs.

Since, I work in Finch, I wanted to know general comments on 'Richmond Hill' area. I need help for the following:

1. Do Indians prefer Richmond hill?
2. Is the area safe ( close to Yonge) and how do fellow Indians compare it to living in Mississauga? ( in terms of status )
3. Is the average income higher in Richmond hill compared to Mississauga & Brampton?
4. Does it have good schools?

Some of these questions are open ended but any opinions are welcome since I am new to Canada. :-)

Thanks

The neighbourhood close to your location (Yonge-Finch) is a highly Chinese concentrated area, including Richmond Hill. They have a tendency to inflate the real estate prices (good if you are a seller) and hence the entire neighbourhood near North York (Yonge-Finch), Richmond Hill, Thornhill (mostly Jewish) is expensive (over priced) with OLD construction. New construction is generally high rise condos (high maintainence fees).

Please look at the option Sudesingh has provided, or if you wish to live nearby, think of renting instead of owning. It does not make sense to drive from Mississauga to North York everyday with traffic condition of 401 worsening with each passing day.

Another alternate is drive further north to Maple, where you can find decent Semis and Free hold THs in the $350K~$400K+ range, under construction or some ready to move in.

Good luck.

Hiren
