Hi,
I will really appreciate if I can get some guidance on how to proceed.
I am currently on a open grad work permit expiring April,2012
I have applied for Permanent Residency under the CEC category and hoping to get completed by sept,2011
I am planning to get married in dec,2011 and would like my spouse to accompany me right after the wedding.
I noticed that processing times for sponsoring spouse as a PR is taking 6 months in New Delhi, and getting a visitor visa takes 15 days.
Keeping these timelines in mind what is my best option and the process.
1) Instead of sponsoring her on PR (given i get mine in PR, and I don't want to follow the sponsor your spouse process as 6 months wait is long) apply for her visitor visa, get her here and then apply for her PR as my spouse from within Canada (at least while we wait, we will be together)
2) Get her PR application started as soon as I get mine (sept) and hope to get her done by dec (which sounds highly unlikely as they are taking 6 months)
3) Any other option?
Please advise.
Thanks,
PR

If you get married to her here , u have two choices
1> In canada application
This kind of application takes a long time as the cic does not consider this a priority and until the application is processed , she has no medical insurance and cannot work legally
It could take over 18 months.
2> U could send her back and it usually takes 3-6 months for processing.
Thanks for the reply ji and dude..
I am debating all the dates..
I applied for my PR under CEC category in sept,10. Currently the processing times is 10 months so I am hoping I should complete my process in the July-Sept,2011 time frame. My work permit expires in April,2012 and I can probably get it extended.
Don't want to change my status and update my PR application in the middle due to marriage as it will cause more delays to my PR application. Hence, want to wait till my PR process is completed.
Now my to be spouse lives in India, so her file will be created in Delhi, where PR for spouse is about 3-6 months as you have mentioned. The only concern with that is if I get married in Dec,2011 after I have my PR (July-Sept,11) I would still need to wait for 6 months to get her here. Which obviously I would like to avoid.
So, I guess what I think I should do is
As soon as I get my PR, go for a quick visit, ask her to prepare all her PR forms, medicals, police reports etc, get married in court, do a small get together etc.. then apply for her PR as spouse. I am really hoping this can be done in July as thats when I am hoping to get my PR by... as it will be 10 months since I applied for PR.
Then wait and hope to get her PR approval by Dec (which is when I am planning the bigger celebrations etc for the wedding), which is exactly 5 months from July. Time lines are tight and she might not have her PR process completed due to either my own PR delay or her own PR delay or both delays.
That why I was thinking about TRV for her ... so if her PR is not completed then may be if she gets the TRV she can come with me in Dec.
I am just trying to find the best way to tackle this. And if I can get more guidance then that will be really appreciated.
I have never dealt with a lawyer, its been 8 years in Canada and have completed all the CIC processes myself. So, I know I can get this done too, but just too sensitive of an issue as my spouse will also be affected.
Please any ideas will be great!
Thanks for your time everyone!
