I got a parking ticket from City of Markham where I haven't been for over 2 years. I called customer service and they said they will investigate.
Anybody has idea about recourse available to me as fighting the ticket would mean $50 in gas and time. It is better to pay the ticket of $40 for a offence I never committed. It sucks.

i feel sorry for you, have you check your ticket and its really shows your Lic. plate no or someone else? check it out if it shows your Lic. plate than you can't do anything, if not than you can provide them as proof of your ownership where clearily stated about LIC. plate No..

I got a letter. not a ticket. The letter shows my licence plate. When writing parking ticket, they should have written vehicle make and color. I would assume. I never got any ticket so do not know what information is written on ticket.

So they mail out the impending conviction letter.
it's simply a money making scheme for them.
Last month there was a CTV report on how cops have "quotas" for traffic tickets, just like sales quotas.
Apparently, in addition to preventing crime (or rather, instead of preventing crime), it is now the cops' job to make money for the city.
I know it is a hassle for you, but don't give into this rip off scheme.
Go to the city office indicated in the letter and fill out the paperwork to go for trial.
Then, once you get the trial date, ask for full disclosure.
That is where you will see what evidence was used to issue you a ticket.
If you weren't there, then it is clearly a mistake and the charge will be dismissed.
i am willing to bet that if everyone took their parking ticket to trial, the cities will have to stop this rip off scheme.
it will cost them more to try the cases than what they make out of it.
in your case, it costs them to mail the letter, the clerk's time, the prosecutor's time, the judge's time etc.
given how much these public officals make plus their benefits I don't see how the city can make a profit out of it.
so please for everyone's sake don't encourage this scheme.
plead not guilty, deny the charge and go to trial.

all it had was my name and plate number on it, a date of 03/22/2008 and location somewhere in markham that i've never been to in my life.
no discription of my vehicle, no make or model, no time of the incident.
also on this date, i was in school from 830am to 2pm.
it must have been a mistake, a mistyped ticket.
how do i fight this notice? is it even real?

went to the town centre to fight the ticket and i won.

did you meet First Attendant to present your case or opted for a case hearing with a judge to fight the ticket? I am in similar situation. I asked them via email to send me picture of infraction (similar to red light camera ticket)
I think City of Markham is picking up plate # from a data base at random.
