Btw, your signature "keep moving" adds that perfect touch of irony to your views, don't it?

Germany had Brown Shirts. We have Brown Knickers.

;)

They are the same...the 'silent oppressed majority' rise up theme is as common to them as it is to Alqaeda, Kluklux clan and stormfront. Wont it be fun if all of them get their way and get to duke it out amongst themselves?

Hi Chris

Are you really interested in finding out why and what for of the problems in South Asia?

Then go read Stephen P Cohen`s book`¨the idea of Pakistan¨

Regarding Mahatama, well let me say that he never said as Jake is tr4ying to point out here that he would sede land to death of a person. That is totally malacious and is wont to twist the according ot his liking.

He said-- if the option to cowrdice is to pick up a sword then I should be the first person to pick up the sword.

It was he who first asked for the repulsion of the invaders From Valley of Kashmir in 1948. He asked for defence forces to be used.

Chris, let me remark here that India has produced two individuals worthy of greatest admiration. Mahatama and Lord Buddha. This has been the genius of Indian civilization. And anyone using invectives against him shows hie incomplete education, uncouth upbringing and lack of understanding of the nuances of debate.

However, that also means that the ideas propagated by them are being distorted by modern day secularists in India for their own ends. That leads to Mahatama being attacked.

Will you find anywhere in the world a cabinet minister asking for votes in the name of secularism and bin Laden? That is the reality of India.

Besides, not all the ideas of ,ahatama are set in stone. He was not incorrigble nor was he infallicious. So it would be only right to question the beliefs and find out what the truth is. A healthy bit of scepticism never did harm any one.

I will be back Chris but then you must first read Al Burrini s account of rape and massacre of vast majority of the Indian landmass ( by India I mean the land east of river Indus and south of Himalayas and by Indians I mean all those who have the welfare of people of this landmass as their core belief and by this definition I think I would call you an Indian too) by Mahmud Gahzni. May the likes of him smoulder in hell for generations to come.

Bhagat Singh

Dont we know you already? :D
Nevertheless, Gandhi never really said that he would cede land to the death of a person. . Read what i wrote and it did not mention anything about Gandhi saying it.That was my judgement/opinion of what the man would rather have nand i still stand by it.
However he was a participant in the boer war and has also commented about justifiable wars...it should be in the last link I provided.
He was human...and you do also see him saying there are no just wars at times...
"Speaking of Nazi oppression he claimed that if ever there could be "a justifiable war in the name of humanity" then the "war against Germany . . . would be completely justified. But I do not believe in any war"
http://www.mkgandhi.org/Conflict%20Reso/06%20International%20Conflict.HTM

I guess he was trying to make sense of this world we live in...and I think he has had more success than most of us. He was obviously on his own personal journey of growth, with all the changes of opinions it suggests, while one is on such a journey.

I do agree with the gist of what you are saying , tho i'm not really even half as mad with Mohmud Gahzni, Aurangazeb, the Mongols, the inquisitioners or the Crusaders :).

Mr Singh, thank you for your comments. yes, i will seek out the book you mention. i also agree with your choice of India's greatest men.

this in fact what attracts me to india is that it is a culture based on self-perfection and knowledge. the Western/Christian and Islamic traditions are based on proselytizing, by the sword if need by. Bush's "crusade" is perhaps an expression of the same cultural imperative.

by contrast, India's religions and culture emphasize self-improvement, which is perhaps why india has never invaded another country; and which is perhaps why India is now becoming one of the knowledge centers of the world.

I don't want anybody to spread religious propaganda via this website and you're walking that fine line. The question was about Gandhi so don't distort the argument here by bringing in other stuff.

Also, don't use multiple ids.

Please find another medium of relaying your agenda, this is not the place. I have already banned a few ids for doing this and I will have no trouble banning more.

You can send your message to Chris via PM or email if he's interested.
