Hello all,
I did my landing in June 2009 and returned back to US immediately. Now my US visa is expiring in October 2011 and I have no possibility of US visa extension but the only option is to move back to Canada to settle. However, my wife is pregnant and the delivery is expected in August 2011 (leaving me approx. two months time to move back after the delivery). I am in a dilemma as to move back to Canada (Toronto) before the delivery or after. Hence the following questions:
1) If I move back before the delivery - I heard that getting Insurance will be difficult for a pregnant lady (pre-existing condition), Is it true ? (as OHIP coverage will take three months before activation and I would definitely require coverage in the interim)
2) If I move back after the delivery - Will there any be any issue at the border with returning back to Canada with baby born in US and having US passport in short Visitor visa for baby and not a PR holder ? Border officer can refuse entry ?
3) What would be your recommendation ? Move back after or before the delivery ? (Considering in either case that I will have to find a Job in Canada to survive in addition to the "hassles" in the settling process)
Appreciate all your inputs - thanks in advance !!!
Thanks & Regards,
Raj
Raj,
I think, you can move to Alberta before your wife's delivery. Alberta has no waiting period for health coverage. Also, your babay will be a canadian citizen & youe life will be simpler. You can look for jobs in Alberta. Otherwise, after delivery you can move to other provience also. These are my advice, you should take more advice with other also.

Move back after the delivery .
For one , you are in the US and having the baby delivered in the US would be comfortable for the mother .. due to familiar surroundings ... as well as for you to manage .
For two , you would earn for 2 more months after the delivery rather than landing in an uncertainty in Canada ..... prior to the birth .
Third and most importantly - your child will have US citizenship and at a later stage will be able to acquire Canadian Citizenship as well .. its a win win situation , considering that a lot of people travel to the US to have their babies delivered for the same reason .
I do not think that Border Officials would have any more issues ... You might have to get a TRV Visa for your child because he was not there before but that just procedural .
All the best !! BTW Nova Scotia also covers your health from Day 1 .

Thanks all for the inputs. One question though - why a TRV would be required for the Child ? Being born in US and having US passport, will it not be sufficient to travel as US citizens can visit to Canada by just showing their passport / birth certificate at the border ?
Thanks & Regards,
Raj
Yes - you are right ... I stand corrected ....
I m sure there must be a procedure for your child to get Canadian citizenship later and retain his US as well ..
