Hello guys,
Just looking for a friendly piece of advice in regards to my current situation. I will be applying for my TN in a few weeks from now and I have been informed by my company that I can only apply 8-10 days in advance of my start date. This doesn't leave me with enough room to give a 2-weeks notice to my current employer in canada.
So I guess I only have two options - 1. Give a notice before I appear for my TN and take a risk in case something goes wrong, or 2. Apply for the TN and then try to convince my employer with just one-week notice (and this can be problematic as well)
I am really confused at this moment how to go about this. Any advice would really be appreciated.
Additional info - I will be applying at one of the Buffalo POE's under computer system analyst.
Thanks.

Some employers relieve u early if u say u are going to a competitor..
Try that ploy, or else ask for the hiring employer for a more suitable joining date.

Try explaining the situation to your new employer - both the risk and the required 2 sweek notice period at your current employer.
There is no rule such as 8 to 10 days before start that I know of. However, 8 to 10 days (if business days) comes pretty close to 2 weeks. So, you might be ok.
Try obtaining the necessary documents from your new employer, secure your TN and then work your way out of the current employer.

Thanks for the reply. Actually, it's calendar days, my new employer states that it's highly advisable that I should not apply for my TN more than 8-10 calendar days in advance of the date (start date) stated on the offer letter.
Rest is all set, I am just contemplating as to what would be the correct timing for letting my current employer know.
