Considering replacing second vehicle (car), I personally owned Toyota and Honda with impressive reliability, but this time also considering VW jetta/ golf TDI (diesel gives better highway milage). But VW reliability is a concern, being assembled in Maxico for canadian market, also concern if diesel engine is problematic in exterme cold (-30C or below), diesel engine comes at a premium cost, is it really worth?
Please share your experiences.
The Jetta/Golf cars are a level higher in engineering and luxury. They are solid cars. However, they are expensive to maintain the relialibility is always an issue with VW's. I owned a 2001 and Jetta 1.8T and loved it - it was a great driving car.
The diesel is a solid engine and you won't have any problems with it. It's only cost-effective to get a diesel if you plan on keeping it for many (7+) years. If you keep it less than that, at least you won't have to fill up as often.
I almost got one 2 months ago.
