Mississauga is a great place, especially for a new immigrant mother with kids. We live near Square One and it is most convenient. Also very safe. Schools nearby are pretty decent. I would strongly recommend this area to anyone first landing in this country. Thereafter, once you learn about different areas and your preferences and school choices..... One can make a more conscious move.....
hi rida.first of all welcome to canada.i would suggest you to choose an area where you are closer to the subway or ttc since you will be arriving in winter.commuting would be a hassle due to snow. as far as the desi neighbourhoods are concerned, they are all over. i have been here just a month and any area that i have looked around i could always see desi stuff and halal meat shops.areas aound danforth/pape, danforth village/scarborough near agincourt mall and i hear that they have the best islamic school of toronto.so hope you get an idea.
pm me if you require any kind of assistance or any help during settling down.
take care
We lived in the Thorncliffe Park area for around three years and enjoyed our stay there, below are what i think are a few good points of this neighbourhood
- Well connected to the the TTC, 4 bus routes of which 2 of them start and
terminate at Thorncliffe park drive.
- A range of grocery stores, including a couple of south asian grocery stores
Library
- East York town centre includes the walk in clinic, 3 banks, post office and a
grocery store.
- During our stay we found it it to be a safe neighbourhood
- Mississauga is also a good choice, if you have access to a car as public transit is not comparable to Toronto.
cheers,
I had experienced both area Toronto for 10 yrs and Mississauga for 2 yrs - Mississauga is more safe comparing to Thorncliff area - Webb drive, Hillcrest area -
