That's a false statement, I just made a transfer last week (from ICICI) for one lac, fifty thousand, and no questions were asked.

Only way is to send through Hawala , which is illegal source of sending money and you should only send when you know the trustworthy source

DO NOT USE HAWALA

The statement is correct as he is mentioning Western Union... please check here for more info http://india.westernunion.com/WUCOMWEB/staticMid.do?method=load&pagename=mtSendMoney
Though i am not sure if it is one transaction per month or 12 transacation per year.

Even ICICI bank has a limit of $ 3000 per day if you are not an account holder.

Do you have immediate family @ India ? .. Your wife / children etc .

If Yes , then not only can you send money for their maintenance but also claim it as tax deduction in Canada while filing return .

Either way in my opinion sending money for family need would be safest reason .

do we really claim in tax for family members in india for their maintenance? it is for only immediate family means wife and kids or we can claim for parents as well??

This statement is in deed false and baseless -- please point to the RBI rule which abstains transfer of more than Rs 1 lacs per month ...... if you are aware of any such RBI rule that is ...

He is also mentioning ANY transferring body ... You have actually contradicted him by proving ICICI 3K limit for non a/c holders ... $3K > INR 1 lacs .......... I have transferred more than 5lacs through SBIC as well as TD Bank in the past .

Jigz787 is right.

Puttoo > Western Union put limit of $2.5K for online transfer but not for transfer in person at WU location. ICICI also limit to $3K for non-account holders to protect themselves from fraud/money laundering.

Bijubt > If you have account with SBI (Canada), you can transfer as much money as you want. You can do exactly same with any other bank including big five. SBI (Canada) or ICICI will usually give better rates (tip - you can negotiate if transfering large amount).
