I'm working in US under H1 visa status. I'm going to get married a canadian citizen girl. We're getting married in January 2012 in india. But, before that I want to get married on paper(in US or CANADA) whichever is quicker to start my PR process. Can we just go to court and get married that way? or do we need to get married by Hindu rituals to provide some proofs to court? I'm extremely confused. Someone please help.

Yes, you can go to the Family Services Court where you live and get your marriage registered in the State you live. You'll appear in front of a judge and you'll need witnesses to sign off. You can then obtain a marriage certificate from the State that is verifiable, authentic and legal.

Your wife needs to file sponsorship application for your PR and you can use your marriage certificate to apply for your PR.

As Gurram stated, yes, you may. Your wife will be your sponsor.
