1. Nissan dealer in Windsor, ON gave a quote for $1400 for AC repair (replace compressor, evac and recharge), incl 13% HST. They quoted the compressor for $850.

Advance Auto Parts dot com (US site) sells the compressor for $407 USD and today I can get for $345. Plus tax in Michigan is 6% and labor is around $75 to $85 while Nissan wants $99.95 for labor. In short, I can get the same repair done for around $730 USD.

Just have to keep in mind parts bought off the service shops will be higher than buying online.

However, for any "non-emergency" repairs, I prefer buying parts online and have a shop do the repair and charge me labor. Ex - Brakes, shocks, etc.

2. Goodyear Fuel Max tire I bought for my Durango is about $160 at Goodyear in New York State and is about $215 at Canadian Tire in Windsor.

So, yes, almost everything can be purchased (and that's what I do) at a cheaper price in the US including milk that is sold at $6 in Windsor and $2 to $3 at kroger in Michigan.

@ Dimple2001

Thanks for valueable information.
some time when we order online, they dont provide us the option to put Canadian Address (in my case Fossil USA did not provie me with the option to put Rotonto Address). In such a cases we might not be able to buy online from USA

Do you know of any friend/relative in US whose address you can provide on checkout and they will then mail it to you? It is only worth the effort if the price difference is huge. For a smaller differences, I would recommend to buy from within Canada.

Also, one more thing. Beware of counterfeits and replicas if you ever need to buy online, regardless of whether it is located in States or China (heard of Apple Store and Ikea?).

Good luck and enjoy your stuff without repenting about the price now. Also, happened to me once when I bought wireless Sony headphones from Source at $112 and the same in States was selling for $45. Darn! But I moved on and learnt my lesson :). I normally do most of my purchase, including grocery and gas from States as I live a stone's throw away from the border. The biggest shock I get is when I need to buy any book - it's almost half the price down South. Chapters (avoidable) is a complete rip-off, even when our Dollar is more than the US. Anyhow! You got the gist.

That's true.

In my case, I live in Windsor which is just a deadly swim across Detroit River. Since I have a temp accommodation in the US for work, I have a US address, in fact 2 addresses. So, I guess I am fortunate enough to have very easy access to US on-site and online purchases.

I also kept a US credit card since 1994 and hence don't incur any exchange fee ripoffs when purchasing in the US.

Yes, they do and you tell them you bought groceries. Normally, Canada doesn't like apples coming in while US doesn't like citrus coming in. To certain extent, Canada is ok with meat (poultry, beef, pork, fish), just can't bring wholesale quantities. Also, I heard there is no $ limit on the groceries unlike other purchases, but I can't vouch for that.
