thanks, the HP G-Series 15.6" Intel Core i3-380M Laptop looks like a great deal but is out of stock. Keep the links coming, thanks!
While buying a laptop , my preference would be as under :
a. Screen size : 15.6" though these days 10.x netbooks are also quite functional for non prolonged use ( other wise the keypad is smaller ) .
b. Processor : Intel always scores on this ... Have seen some dual core processor based laptops returning back in $350 - $450 range .
c. Operating System : XP ... I think MS has failed to pass XP . Vista failed and 7 is not as user friendly for XP users . If a laptop comes with 7 , it may be worth while to check if XP drivers for the same are available .
d. Memory . 3 GB is more than sufficient for daily use .
e. HD : 200GB + is a standard norm .
Regarding brands , I would not prefer one over the other . Acer , Toshiba , Dell , HP are pretty competitive in their product quality .

Fido.
Hi there ,
While browsing the flyers yesterday , I found 2 great laptop deals one each on Staples and Future Shop , pretty similar configuration for laptop .
Staples ( Sat only ) : 15.6 " , i3-2310M , 4GB , 640 GB - $ 399/- ... Toshiba .
Similar config for HP laptop in FS : 15.6", i3-370M , 4GB , 640 GB - $450/- . ... HP
The deal @ Staples is only on Saturday . However what some people do is to buy the product before and then go in later during the promo to take back the refund for the difference .
Hope this helps !
The Staples one says its $180/- off .

. Ensure that you are there the time the store opens & ask for the store manager directly . Some times such items move out pretty fast and then you might have to traverse a longer distance to reach another store .

Fido.
I was pretty happy with a refurbished llaptop purchase once from Tigerdirect.com.No issues till date.
Even Walmart had some pretty good machines under $350.00
But both are US prices if somebody can pick those up for you.
I missed the staples offer, they were out of stock. I am now thinking of Asus from Canada computers, the staff said something is coming out this Friday. They offer 2 years warranty. With credit card it can be converted to 3 years. 3 years is good enough to write off a laptop. Open to any other deals too that surface during back to school.
Thanks again Fido.
