I've found these 2 traps to work well

Don't forget to put some peanut butter, they love peanut butter Also the glue pads seem to work well.
Try and keep 2 traps facing eaching other. What I have found that when they start eating the peanut butter from one, they tend to get trapped in the other one.
Go around the house and try and figure out where they are coming from. Keep a few traps around the corners.

You need to find out where the mouse (mice) entered the house in order to really stop the problem. It's possible one came in through an open door or window, but if this isn't the case they could be entering through holes near plumbing, near the vent for the clothing dryer, gaps between the door and the door frame or some place else. If you find gaps you can fill them with steel wool. This will ensure that once you trap the current mice you won't get any more. It's getting colder and mice are looking for warm places to settle for the winter. One mouse will turn into many more. It's happened to me in many of my homes, particularly the older ones! Be sure to be careful cleaning up the droppings, they are unhealthy for humans.

Thanks for the info Portia, any specific reason for using steel wool?
I think you could use anything that would plug up holes. They are able to squish their little bodies through very small holes. Steel wool fits in any size hole and they can't chew through it.
I also just remembered that peppermint oil can act as a deterrent - it won't kill them or stop an infestation but apparently they don't like it so you could put some near plumbing or wherever you suspect they are (provided you don't mind the smell!)
