Hi all,

I was always looking for a voip service without requiring to keep computer on at all time. I tried 'magic jack' and found it ok comparing to money put in; but the down side is that laptop/ computer is to be kept on all time with those unwanted sounds.
I just came across another service <www.nettalk.com>, which claims to be working without need to keep computer on. This is about the double the price of magic jack but claims to be working directely on router.

Any feed backs please.

Magicjack Plus does not require computer to be on. The other option is to buy thin client for regular magicjack or hack it and run with any VOIP ATA.

Hi guys,

I have registered my account with freephoneline.ca and got new number. At this point I do not have ATA device and trying to use from PC. Once I will satisfy with service, I will go for ATA.

From PC, I am always getting "no connection to server" error. I was not able to make single call even. I know there are few ports need to be open. I am in IT and as far as I know I had opened those ports correctly on router. Still facing same problem.

Do you think the problem will persist even after receiving package with ATA device from freephoneline.ca?

Alternatively, I heard about magicjack plus which works without computer and ATA device.

Any suggestion on magicjack plus for Canada?

I have magicjack device (old) which is deactivated and I am waiting for local canadian number to activate. how easy to make this device work without computer?

Thanks,

Hi RBO ..
Robbery is defined as Theft under threat or use of force. I fail to understand how 'Rogers' have robbed people ? They are providing services with a posted rate . Is it not our own duty to use due diligence prior to signing for any services ?
If people chose to use their services at the posted rates , how it is a robbery ??

P.S : Yeah I am ready for the brickbats for defending Rogers who have employed over 6000 ( mostly desis ) with in GTA .

IMO,

Canada is worst country in the world once you compare cell phone services. We have highest rate plan compare to others.

see the below link.....

http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2009/08/11/canada-cellphone-rates-expensive-oecd.html

http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/tech/cellphones/economy.html

http://www.thomaspurves.com/2007/04/09/canada-worse-than-3rd-world-countries-when-it-comes-to-mobile-data-access/

Rogers and bell has already established their set up long times ago and still they are charging like crazy for all phone plans. I know once you start to do new set ups always cost lots more for infrastructure, setting servers, cables lying, labour involvement etc... but now they already did everything still they didn't offer single penny down in your bills but we are getting more and more money in bills.

do you think this is right things this both giant companies are doing with us?

when i came in Canada in 2006 go to rogers to get cell phone. Rogers counter person didn't told me and automatically did 3 yrs contract for just 100 mins day time with caller ID, incoming free with $53.85 + taxes. I paid almost $2200 for that service for 3 yrs........when i came to know after 4 months about contract and told them to cancel it.......Rogers told me if you want to cancel the contract you have to pay $400 (early contract cancellation fees) What a B******T?

I am happy now b'cos so many other company started there cell phone services in Canada which is good for customers.

IMO, I am still feels they are "Robers" I was paying for just Basic Home phone line to Rogers for ($34 + taxes/month). I cancelled it and started with Freephoneline with all features and now i am saving a month almost $40/month......and i am using this service now almost for one year and saved $500 (which i considered a big amount) am i right?

what i feels Rogers and Bell both are charging customers way much for all services like cell phones, Cable, Home phone, etc....

P.S. : i am not a agent for Freephoneline company but i given my opinion based on what i found from my experience.....

cheers..........
