Hi Folks ,
Wished to discuss thi for quite some time . What s your take on tips - either @ a restaurant or other places ?
Personally I feel that they are unwarranted as it is hidden cost to the consumer .. Nobody tips me to do my work so why should I tip others to do theirs .
Some people argue that the service people are under paid as tips are considered by their employers .. To that argument , to me it appears that then it is an attempt by the employers to increase the cost on the consumer without exhibiting it ....
Either way , I do not tip and do not feel bad about it in principle ... How about you ??

Somebody is definitely feeling bad when you do not tip !!
and friend , everybody gets tip , you too get tip which I am sure you accept gleefully ! What do you think is your yearly bonus ?? thats a tip from your employer for working well and serving well. With same logic Tip is bonus for the people in service and more important to them. Your tip may lead the person to get a nice gift to his/her kid.
Please do not refuse to give tip, you are denying somebody a precious happy moment. In my view it is a humane thing. (Do not tip if you do not like the service, fair enough! )
All of us love tips. We even tip God, then why not to fellow human beings.
Btw I am also permamant employee who gets yearly bonus as a tip, and wait for it and I give tips when in restaurants or spas or salons.
Many restaurants add handsome gratuity amounts in their bills, which is a kind of tip on pen and paper.
Should we also tip in those situations on top of gratuity(gratuity amounts which could be in the range of 10-15%)?

If a restaurant has added a gratuity on a bill, you dont need to tip on top of that. The gratuity *is* the tip. However most gratuities are at 22%. Its common to add the gratuitity for parties of 8 or more people.
I dont know if tipping is required or not or should be done etc, but its common practice.
What you may not know is that bad tippers are remembered. If you go to a restaurant many times and dont tip at all, then a) I'd think twice about eating the food or b) you will find that servers dont go out of their way to be nice to you or get you what you need.
If you can afford to go out to eat, then you can afford to leave a reasonable tip is my two cents.

It is not the same logic - the employers pay the yearly bonus, not the customers of your company. Likewise, the restaurant owners should pay their servers the "tip" (i.e. the bonus).
