Mark Steyn knows zilch about business in India. I would rather listen to the Gujratis who are known for their business acumen and they are saying .... "Gujarat mein chini come"...
Guess the headline of this news says it all .... "Gujaratis know the language of business; learn Chinese, Japanese"

Modi G recently came back from China and he was looking for some "chini" for Gujrat.
This is a god sent golden opportunity leading to another scam for Kangress. Anand Mohan Sharma would be person at the front to siphon off big fat bribes coming from MNCs to open up the sector. Benefactors will be Sonia and family and MMS(no prizes for guesses).
Kamaal hai, god tussi great ho. Ek aur mauka dita country ko luttan vaste(Sonia and MMS and kompany).

He who has not acquired one of the following: religious merit (dharma), wealth (artha), satisfaction of desires (kama), or liberation (moksa) is repeatedly born to die
Now a days we only see negatives of MMS , may be we forgot 1991 economic reforms , of course there were other players but he was the front runner and pioneered the policies. If not administrative or leadership qualities I have full faith in MMS's economic acumen. I dont change my views like people like 'your friend' has done in above post, ranting for nothing.
Sonia and MMS are weak administrator and do not have modi like stick in hand for corrupt colleagues but lets give the credit where it is due.
My four thumbs up for the new retailer policy and for not buzzing from his stand because he knows like he knew in 1991.

and he also knows that Indian people are never rationale (initially) to any revolutionary thoughts. We have sheep like mentality, lets accept it.
India is now making space craft, heavy engineering goods, and scientific knowledge is far superior than many western countries. After all can't we run super markets or malls much better than foreign countries. Why there is a need of foreign retailers? If technology is well implemented then all benefits listed in favor of foreign retailers could be achieved by local big retailers?
My understanding is that 40 crore farmers should be biggest benefices of the new rule. The few crore baniya Community may be in for non-reversible downfall. As small time traders just cannot compete with big time corporations, Entry of Wall Mart , Tesco will ensure the farmer gets a fixed income & know whom to deal with. Not a ups & down prices of onion, cotton etc that results in so many suicides of farmers all over India. Ups & down price only help the hoarders.

I think with FDI, in short term, the inflation may stop or may reduce but in long term, it will create deficit similar to what happened to USA. The big players will import goods and food products from cheap sources like China to make quick profit. The current generation will leave deficit and debt for the next one. It is a new form of economical slavery. The next world war will not be fought by weapons but by currency.

Why Indians in India should not have access to the goods that Indians abroad have? Desis who shop at Walmart don’t want people in india to have access to the same items. C’mon, this is hypocrisy. Car makers such as Honda have entered India, still Maruti is doing very well. They woke up to the competition and improved. Same with the local retailers such as Reliance, etc. Let the local traders improve and compete instead of keeping stale stuff taking the consumer for a ride.
The way it works now, it’s not that farmer sells directly to the consumer. Farmer has to go thru dalals who then sell to the Lala or Baniya who then to the customer. Dalals and Baniyas keep lion share. Let the farmer/supplier sell to the big box retailer. Without farmers and suppliers there is no big box retailer. In addition jobs would be created along with business opportunities for Indians.
Recently I bought half kg of a vegetable in a vegetable market on, paying Rs. 20. When I checked in the local retailer, it was only Rs. 18 per kg. So the guy in the market is selling at Rs. 40 a kg What nonsense! Those cheats will go out of their business when the big retailers enter the market. Unfortunately, our netas who are totally unexposed, are opposing the FDI in retail. They have their own agenda to protect their vote banks.
