I got my Canadian citizenship in September , 1999 .
My Indian Passport expired in November, 2005 .
But there is NO cancellation stamp on my Indian passport after I acquired my Canadian citizenship in September, 1999 .
If I want to get by expired Indian passport duly cancelled , what is the procedure for it & what are the fees ?
Also do I go to a VFS location to get my old expired Indian passport cancelled or do I go to CGI Toronto ( consulate ) ?
Do I also need to get surrender certificate when I get my Indian passport cancelled or do I just get my passport cancelled & no surrender certificate is required since I got my Canadian citizenship before May 31 , 2010 .
The website only says that I need not pay the $ 168 renunciation fee if I got my citizenship before May 31 , 2010 ..but it does not say if I need a Surrender certificate or NOT if I got my canadian citizenship before May 31 , 2010 . It also says that I've to get my Indian passport duly cancelled .
If you could kindly answer all my questions , I would highly appreciate it .
Thanking you for the same
My understanding is that , I will have to pay $ 20 ( Miscellaneous fees ) + $ 21.75 ( VFS administrative fees ) + $ 240 ( Retention Penalty fees ) = $ 281.75 for getting my old expired Indian passport cancelled ? Am I right ?
Do I also need the surrender certificate in addition to that after getting my passport cancelled ? Do they just stamp the passport cancelled & hand it over to you over the counter ?
