I was going thru some notes I took while in Canada. CPP is delivered right to your a/c, direct deposit, assuming that one has contributed to CPP and has lived in Canada for 10 yrs (hope they dont change that time period). Looks like I am ok wrt CPP. Regarding OAS and GIS, I dont care if I dont get it. One can start CPP at 60 though with a lesser payments.
If someone knows more abt CPP, please share.

Ok Guys.
I spent 2 hours researching this. Here is the verdict.
1. CPP:
No minimum period of stay in Canada required. If you have received atleast one pay cheque in Canada then you are eligible to get a CPP after age 60 in India. The govt. of Canada will send by direct deposit in the local currency to your bank account in India. There is no minimum period to stay in Canada and the Canadian govt. sends this direct deposit free of charge (your receiving bank charges may apply). My statement says $ 172 a month if I was 65 today.
2. OAS:
You need to have stayed in Canada for at least 10 years and still live in Canada to receive this or stay atleast 20 years in Canada to get it abroad. However this can still be paid to Canadians abroad provided that they have completed 10 years and live in Canada for atleast 183 days each year in Canada.
This is a good amount (when your pension is low) say like $ 800 a month or so.
So I and Kumar M will never get this most probably in our lifetime.
3. GIS :
Only for Canadians living in Canada.
Peace

Sorry guys !
One more correction.
2. OAS:
The OAS is like a big pie divided into 40 parts representing years. If you have stayed in Canada for 40 years you will get the full pie say $ 800 a month (with a low pension).
But for people who have stayed just 10 years, you will receive only $ 200 a month or if you have stayed for 20 years only $ 400 a month.
Peace

As I understand, CPP income depends on how much one has contributed for how long.
Anyways, it has been an year that I have returned to India for good. Got a contract job that gives me freedom. So far god has been very kind along with the best wishes from friends and CDs.

KumarM,
It is not like God has been kind to you and stuff like that.
India;s economy is booming and they need people like crazy. The locals are not very interested in working and hence preference goes to hard workers.
If you ever come back to Canada (and are not in IT or Finance), then see how hard it is to land into a job.
