Any suggestions on strategy from Desis who have already relocated to India in terms of how to go about it and also what are at the pitfalls to watch out for in this endeavour.

This is an open question to many who are contemplating to going back.

How long before we need to plan for the same.

Is there possibility for getting contractual work which will enable us to live partly in India and partly in Canada.

This is both for IT and non IT sectors.

Thanks in advance for your suggestion.

Vandematram:
Good question and the question of the hour.
Canada is in deep recession and the snow/cold is unbearable. Jobs are not easy to come by in Canada esp. in the Non-IT sectors and Non-Finance sectors.
India is booming with jobs. No one in India works as dedicatedly as they would expect you to work in Canada. People enjoy life to fullest extent here. Money flows like water.
I live in a small town and cost of living is low. Real estate prices are quite high but apart from that everything else is low. Traffic and pollution
Regarding part time work, it is doubtful unless you can get work in the ISB (Indian school of Business) as a visiting faculty or something like that.
Job are very easy to come by and so you can work in a company for 6 months and quit and then restart in another company after 6 months etc.... Private colleges are the best for that. But donot tell them your intention at first or they will not give you the job.
India is going to go great guns for the next 10 years at least. We have only barely scratched the surface and we have skyscrapers to build. India is envisaging to spend US$ 1 trillion on infrastructure in the 12th , 5 year plan. Infrastructure is one that is giving you terrific returns these days.
All the best. I am there to answer all your queries.
Peace

Despite crazy use of cellphone TK somehow still finds time to respond to all of the posts on this site is sort of indication that it is not easy to let of life in Canada especially if you stayed here for over a decade.
Good luck with Endeavor

PS: TK? Did you get you Ration card yet?
