I would like to work as a System Admin for windows/ unix.
What certificates I should take on? What should be my certificate path?
I would like to get online support, too. Is there any college/school that provides online courses from back in India? I heard that there are few in Hyderabad, but I do not know much about them.
Right now I work FT in non-IT field, but trying to get into IT.
Please suggest.
Thanks
Being a Unix admin pays you much more than a Desktop support based on windows machines. IBM has pretty strong presence, AIX courses would help.
What ever unix flavor you pursue (be it is HP, AIX, Solaris etc.,) not to forget getting hands on Linux.
Alternatively, you could start with Linux administration and move on with other larger unix systems.
You have certifications available on each listed above.
Its at least a year worth of consistent effort for some one on a Non-IT field to pursue sysadmin.

Thanks for replying...I have a science bachelor degree and some desktop/a+ training...what should be my certificate path for Unix admin if I select IBM??... a weblink would be highly appreciated...
I feel it would be a better idea if an AIX admin shares his / her insight on this.
I work with a lot of AIX admin at my work. Let me contact them and see if they have any path.
I was once a Solaris admin, I just started
- learning basic shell scripting,
- understood the structure of the OS,
- Basic administration such user creation etc.,
- backups
- then slowly installation, patching, NIS, network configs etc., etc.,
I switched role more than 10 years ago, so I will be in touch with you appropriate details...
Good luck with your career.
