1. What are the basic criteria one should use to select an agent?

2. Are all agents suitable for all areas of Toronto? For example, let’s say I want to look for a house in Oakville. In that case should I hire an agent whose main market is Oakville?

3. I don’t want to be pushed to make a deal. How should I clarify this with the agent?

4. Should I hire more than one agent?

5. How can I figure if an agent is working sincerely for me?

Thanks you in advance.

Just go for pretty face of oppposite sex......I know that could put your marriage in jeopardy...if you are married or living with common law partner or have a girlfriend...(need to be careful with language and jokes)
jokes apart...most of the real estate agents are not pushy....(I used "h" in place of "s" there.) Since they will get money from you and it is their business..side or main, they will be sincere..
Hire more than one agent?...why? To see the same house from different agents? Now don't be oversmart..some good agents may make you sign some so called agreement to protect their intersts but other than does your concious allows you to take advantage of some one else's need> I know agent don;t care, but when buying a house you do not need that sour feeling that you knowingly ditched other because he was not the first one to show the house you liked or did not talk the things that you liked or did not use the perfume you like. Even though he worked hard to show you 100 other beautful houses and did not push you..
Just decide your criteria and if you meet around 80%+ of those go for that otherwise you will never be happy with whichever house you buy and then you will blame poor agent for pushing or not pushing you...

He never pushed you...dont you think you were lucky that he never pushed you...he was cordial and patient enough not to push you. You only mentioned that he clarified the things. House is such a thing that you have to do homework what you are looking for and what you need..realtor's job is to closely meet those criterias including budget...what if he would have pushed you for the house..lets say near landfill which typically stinks at night..I can go on and on ...
I would have agreed to call the agent a bad apple if he would have pushed you into buying a grow house....
metallurgy may have read between the lines and may be asking for the details for same reasons...
Again when buying a house that is not from builder, there is no perfect house, you have to compromise a bit with open mind. I would rather buy a new house few miles away with the amenities that I want than get a house of which most of the things were used, chosen by others and on top of it pay for realtors fees (indirectly buyer bears the cost).

Just to clarify I was not your agent and not in the businesss of real estate and dont hack into my laptop ;) just kidding there is nothing on my playbook.....and please dont disable my ID, I am hooked on to it, I will remove the comment if you did not like the truth...:(

Hi,

I am a Real Estate Agent and was really hurt to see that some of you have had bad experiences with an Agent. Any professional agent will never pressurise his clients. I have worked and am working with lots of buyers and never once forced them to do anything. My clients are happy with my services and they refer me to their friends often.

If u want to try my services, pls call me on 2892426565, I work all over Toronto (Markham to Hamilton including kitchener and Waterloo)

I think it is a good idea to find someone who specializes in the area you want to live in. There can be subtle things that you don't know about the neighbourhood. Sometimes just in the course of just a few blocks things can change quite a bit. A good agent will know about the schools in the area, the safety of the area, etc. Its important that you feel comfortable with them, but its equally important that they are knoweldgable, you aren't hiring them to be your friend and you need someone with good negotiating skills. In my area (Toronto West) we have several real estate agent who specialize in this area and send ads all the time. The quality really varies but I wouldn't buy with anyone who can't spell or says "now is the perfect time to buy or sell". How can it be the perfect time for both? Clearly either transaction is in the agents best interest, but not necessarily yours.

Wish I had more specifics, good luck.
