I am not sure on the terminology, but, its fact that..
Any item where the seed can be divided into 2equal half is classified as Protein (not carbohydrate)... this refers to chickpeas, lentils, nuts, beans.. all are protein.
Cortisol is a hormone which is responsible for fat accumulation in certain areas of the body.
Now, interesting is that the thing which controls this hormones are regulated by stress level.
So the most important things are like reducing stress levels and enough sleep. People tend to get overweight during their 30's or early 40's because they are at the highest level of stress during this time. knowingly or unknowingly everybody is affected by such things which reduce the sleep(Not only the length of sleep but the depth of sleep too).
I got this tip from one of the show of famous Dr. Oz
So some of the important factors to reduce this are as follow
-build a positive attitude toward life.
-Try to reduce the stress level as much as possible.
-Get enough sleep.(atleast 7-8 hours during night)
-Use meditation techniques like pranayama, yoga etc.
To those of you interested in eliminating rice totally, I can suggest some alternatives,
1. Firstly Barley. Rich source of fiber, closer to rice in satisfying taste, texture and eat-ability. Just soak two glasses of barley in the morning for at least 2 hours, then pressure cook it just like rice (might take longer so count for 5 whistles). Now you have something that is healthy that you can mix with sambar, dal, rasam, curd, buttermilk and all. You can then have side curries both dry and gravy. If you're genuinely health conscious you can see what a boon barley this way is in replacing rice and still give you the most eat-ability.
2. Secondly, instead of wheat bread or even any breads go for oats stew. Just add half a glass of quick oats in a microwaveable box, add some finely chopped ginger, green chilli and a pinch of salt, fill with water to cover it. Heat it in microwave or stove for like 2 minutes. Take them out, add a spoon of yogurt or butter milk or even curd, beat it with some water. Now your morning break fast is ready in about 5 minutes.
3. For dosa or idlis, you can replace rice flour with Ragi flour or Barley flour or even better millet flours like bajri.
4. Above all, the last BUT NOT THE LEAST, in fact I would say this is the foremost step in weight loss . In the morning when you wake up take a glass of warm water (it got to be warm), add three drops of lemon juice or essence, then 3 drops of honey. Stir well, drink it, stay with that for an hour before consuming anything else. Definitely pays off and you would see the difference from day one.
My idea of rice is that it is a luxury item as you pay a heavy price financially, health wise, physical fitness wise and in many other ways! I recently realized from some good-hearted people that we can avoid diabetes and many other health complexities with simple steps in life with little sense of responsibility. I dont know when and how rice become a staple food in India because from my findings I saw people all over India irrespective of their level in feudalism mostly ate Ragi, wheat, millets, Barley in their regular meals. Rice is kind of an once in a blue moon food during special occasions.
Let us get each other educated about these simple health facts so we live life better. That's my hope.
