Home is where the heart is. Even I long to leave India, as I am sick of Indian politics. Heat is very bad here and so it the pollution and the corruption. It will be nice if the temperature was 18 deg. cent.. Outside is hot like a desert at noon time. Food items are so expensive here. If I eat along in a restaurant I spend only about Rs. 100 a day. but going out with my friends, I spend around Rs. 500 a day on lunch and dinner and my salary canot take this extra amount. May be I will also try gulf.
Just 2 weeks back I received a warning letter from my company saying that I was playing politics in the company. This was due to me working very hard and catching and complaining about the people who are on facebook all the time (incidentally, FB is the most popular site in India. I am not seeing many people even on IPL website)
All the very best !
Peace

Just to set the record straight, I could have been a chamcha to my bosses and still hang around doing no work, eating dinners at company's expense and flying to various sites at company's expense for no site related work.
I could have been Chris Mazza (ORNGE) of Ontario but because I come from a hard working family, I choose not to. I work hard. I work on public holidays and saturdays when I am not supposed to come.
I could have choosen to be on facebook, CD , Naukri and Shaadi.com as long as I wantd during working hours, but I choose not to. I wanted to work for the salary given to me.
Though I was not directly asked to delegate work to my subordinates, I tried to delegate work to them. They flatly refused to work and instead started concentrating on FB.
I spoke with the management regarding this and also made some sweeping comments / double meaning expressions regarding the lack of commitment by the management in controlling these non workers at a family gathering as well as in the cafeteria. The next day I was given a warning letter saying that they could have terminated me but since this was my first offence, that they were letting me off with a severe warning.
But still, I will work hard to the last day that I will be fired and leave the office with grace and when I look back, I can take pleasure in the fact that I worked hard in my mother land Canada (and where due to racism I was fired) and also in India which is my adopted land (where I may be fired for ego).
Peace

Sorry to hear your ordeal. I know what you did must be right. But I think there is always other side of coin to it..you have issues with folks being on FB but on this forum, personally, I was surprised to see your posts about company lavishly spending money on you. If you saw folks on FB, chances are others might have seen you posting these messages. you might justify these by saying I do it after work hours, but I am sure the folks on FB also working their a$$ off to complete the assigned work before deadline. As the saying goes "when in Rome... " so even if you go to Dubai, India, US or Canada you will always have troubles if you don't adapt. Sometimes what you see right may be completely wrong..it is your perspective, background, culture makes it see right or wrong...
Man too much of philosophy..just wish that things get sorted out for you and you will again enjoy the life in India. Good luck!
Welcome back Timon.

TK, you are a good guy. As said by bhootnath, you have to act depending on the place. Wherever you go, you will have these things. As long as people gets their work done within their time frame, leave them.

I regard Timon's observations also as being precisely correct . There are things that Canada offers ( clean environment , good working culture ) which India cannot despite all the economic growth & burgeoning salaries ...And then there are factors which are there in India ( family friends , relatives , Indian culture ) which Canada cannot offer you .... Make a choice .
