Hi Balmukund,

Can empathize with your concern for your child. Not all Can-Indians give big talk (I agree some do), infact as you will read from posts on this forum, there are many who are brutally honest in their opinions.

I can only reply to your query regd. night shifts, one of them is security officer jobs that are available which may assist in him getting some money. If he was in Toronto, I could have assisted in his hiring as our company is always looking for S/O. If you want to email me at my email address, I can find out if our Sudbury branch has any openings. I want you to understand that when one comes from India, they do not want to take up security guard jobs (and I speak from experience), but in this part of the world, working in a fast food places, flipping burgers or driving buses ...etc is not to be frowned upon. So, let me know.

Mr. Balmukund, it's me again, I reread your email and am trying to figure out is your son in Sudbury or Toronto. You say he is sharing acc. w/3 boys, is he in Sudbury and is trying to come to Tor and is trying to find out living expenses here? Your location says "Sudbury"??

*******THE FOLLOWING IS JUST AN OPINION, SPECIFIC TO THIS CASE AND NOT NECESSARILY THE NEGATIVE ATTITUDE TOWARDS LIFE IN CANADA. THE AUTHOR UNDERSTANDS THAT THE READERS MAY OR MAY NOT AGREE WITH THIS. IT MAY BE DIFFERENT IN DIFFERENT SCENARIOS*******
Hi Sir,
The way you have described your son's skills and his qualification, I think he is 'passionate' about advertising and creativity. In my opinion and that is an honest opinion: DO NOT LET YOUR SON'S CREATIVITY DIE. ALSO IF YOU ARE CONCERNED WITH THE MONEY YOU HAVE ALREADY SPENT AND YOU WILL SPEND, ask him to return to India , use his canadian course to his advantage in the Indian job market and live life kingsize.
If you are not concerned with the money and you can keep sending him the money, then do not worry. Your son will be settlled ONE DAY!
As far 'Ad Printing Businesses' are concerned, in Toronto, there are about 10 ad directories and more than 3 dozens south asian newspapers. He may get a job as designer/creative but probably he will have to start from the bottom(may be $10-12 an hour) and it may take years to reach the desired position. The other option could be that he starts his own business but again it requires lot of money and patience. Moreover he is just on student visa and not a PR.
If you are looking for returns on your investments (Rs. 15 lacs) in Canada, then I think you are on a wrong track. Why don't you ask your son, what exactly he wants to do? Does he want to stay in Canada and struggle or does he want to come back to India (you mentioned that his ex-boss is willing to take him back)? He might have seen the scope himself in his own line. He is, probably, the best judge!!

i think your is old enough to decide what he wants to do next. As parents you should ask him what he wants to do and perhaps help him or motivate him in doing watever he wants to do!

flipping burgers and doing 2 low level jobs does not mean that he can never be successful here in his field....watever you guys decide...i think the decision should come from your son...rather than urself.

" ... anticipating they do same in return Unfortunatly we land they turn their back"

-------------------

The culture here is very different. After living here X amount of time, your thinking does change. Although the core Indian values remain, you will find that people are a little more "self serving" and "independant" in the Western Society. Nothing wrong in that, it is just the way it is down here. Family connections can only go so far in this society. It all boils down to the drive of the individual.

The process of becoming successful in Canada takes quite a long time. You won't see much savings for many many years as a new immigrant. If you can make it past the first challenge of getting your first job. Then you have to worry about paying taxes, fees, living costs. I wish people would really understand that if you are moving to Canada or US, do so because it is your long term strategy.

It takes a generation to cope with the struggles in hopes that the next generation will live a more prosperous life with a higher standard of living. Expecting quick results is a waste of time.

Have a talk with your son, and ask him what he feels. Does he think he can make it in a reasonable time frame ? Double that time frame ... and if it meets your budget continue with the plan... If not, then India is as good a place as any to live and work.
