Good confusion !
Not to worry. I will guide you through.
1. Go to the nearest OHIP (Health card) registration counter (with all the documents that you have) and register for the health card. Beware, the crowd will be enormous (as I recently watched in 2010) and you will be served in 1-2 hours.
Just follow the instructions on the paper attached to the card when you receive it.
2. Apply for UCCB/CCTB/GST-PST credit. This can be done by googling and going to the relavant Ontario govt./fed. govt. website. Down load the forms, fill it and send it with the appropriate xerox documents / void cheque and you are done.
3. Google Ontario govt, website to see if you qualify for any more freebies like rent / electricity subsidy/ child grant / national-ontario child subsidy etc... Down load the forms, fill it in and send with the needed document and send it. You will start receiving the benefits automatically.
Here in Canada, there is nothing that comes automatically. You will have to search / hear word of mouth and apply. Glad to have helped you in that regard.
Peace

I am a Gents and not a Ladies.
Perhaps you are like my boss, too many words confuses him. He does'nt want to hear pros / cons, Hence I decide everything for the project, convey in one sentence to my boss, he just spreads the news ;-).
let me infer for you in your acceptable parlance :::
ask your son/wife to APPLY for EVERYTHING without a wait!!
