Is RIM still in the game or it's on it's way to oblivion.
5000 Employees are being fired (announcement came today)..
& bunch of losses.. Stock seems to be punished severely.

Looks pretty bleak to me. In addition to dismal earnings, they delayed the BB10 launch timeframe, which is supposedly their last hope. And by the time this is released, the iPhone 5 will be out, Android will have new phones and windows 8 phones will be out. The tablet market now has the Nexus from Google and Microsoft just showed the world Surface last week, widely expected to dominate the enterprise market. Playbook does not stand a chance.

Looks like their only hope is an acquisition, but nobody seems interested. Terrible for a company that ruled the smartphone market just a while back and bad news for Waterloo.

Another good example of stock market..
Something that was worth over $ 80 is now worth $ 8 (may be even less)
I remember RIM was hiring like crazy in the heart of financial crisis in 2008.
I think some one will buy it out for a cheap deal for sure...
As per toronto star's last year's opinion, RIM takover is unlikely..

Let's see what they have to say this year :D

2.5000 global job cuts
3.$518M 1st qtr losss

its all over for RIM Reverse in Motion... based on available cash they can only survive one more year...

Facebook has plenty of cash, probably they will buy RIM for pennies on the dollar..
FB will be the winner (most of the initial IPO shorts are wiped/flushed out; & the conviction longs are holding it now)..

I think by the time BB10 launches, it is going to look dated. Might look fanciest Blackberry but may look old compared to other phones in 2013. If they are saying Q1 of next year then it could be Q2 if recent history is any indication. Again there is question of apps, are there enough developers interested to write apps for BB10.

RIM might be of some use to Microsoft and Samsung but for Facebook, I am not so sure.

It will impact the housing market around the area where RIM is located, RIM being a major employer of the region, it is going to hurt.

The greed cycle has begun to expose the bone now..
