Its just RIM, which becomes news... there are several smaller firms firing left & right, which goes unnoticed thats impacting everywhere.

On 27th June: Federal Govt proposed 4000 job cuts http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/federal-government-outline-next-round-civil-job-cuts-080007143--finance.html

Auto companies are also retrenching..

Sure all this will affect: the ability of households to pay bills & carry larger mortgages..
defaults are bound to come in the future.. credit card delinquencies have already increased..

RIM is in this situation because of mismanagement.. After initial success they did not innovate.. Unfortunately they have very tough competition in Microsoft, google and Apple.
I made a prediction early last year to a friend that before the end of 2012 RIM will be partially or completely sold. My guess was microsoft.. lets see what happens..

Not innovating and mismanagement are two different things..
Enron was mismanagement. Rim is going down because none of their innovative ideas are sticking. If Rim was mismanaged , i am sure there would be lawsuits by now.

Rogers has cut almost 700 full time and almost 1000 contract employees , most of these have were IT jobs.

Cuts from Bell are expected soon.

This is not good news.. a recession is coming.

For a lot of us its probably getting too late to prepare..
Atleast till the fall (US elections) another couple months, things will hold on as it is, or it will be made to look OK. Thereafter we are expecting some serious trouble in the entire western world economy. The ECRI index is already showing signs of an approaching recession. This time, all the sovereigns are loaded with very high levels of debts, so their ability to pull us out of recession is very limited (unless they go for massive money printing which is highly inflationary & detrimental to the economy in the long run).
Money printing always makes the rich more richer & poor more poorer... & middle class gets screwed.

By the way, did you short RIMM stock - it went down 20.3% on TSX.
This happened on a day when Oil WTI went up 9%.. (isn't that crazy).

Another nail in the coffin is "Iran threatening to close Straits of Hormuz" if/when this happens than a war with Iran is given, & Oil can easily shoot to $200/barrel, which can severely affect the coming recession into something major.. be prepared..

This one is an interesting read: RIM Land http://www.greaterfool.ca/2012/06/28/rimland/

Folks ,
RIM is on a death spiral. I can guarentee it.
Escape while you still can.
Peace
