Can readers please educate me on Magic Jack Plus? Currently I have 2 home lines both with Rogers where I am paying an arm and a leg every month. Long distant calls only to India done via Telehop 10-10-620. Can I keep my both LAN line numbers? and other not yet thought out questions as ell.............
Do I need to continue with Bell/ Rogers for basic service such as 911 etc………

Please assume I am totally technologically challenged.

MJ+ is very simple to install and works literally out of the box .First time to set it up , you will need to plug it into a computer where it will install itself and walk you through to add your details - name , address , contacts etc and ask you to select a number from the list .

Once configured and set up , you can remove it and attach it directly to your modem and attach a phone on the other side .. You are set ..free NA calling . Check their website for detailed instructions .

I use MJ+ at approx $30 per year ($10 for a Canadian number per year ) and Raza.com for 1c/m calling to India ...Wonder if Vonage can beat that unless you call India very heavily.

Just a few more points - I ain't sure if you can port Canadian no.s to MJ+ .. Please check .

911 calling - will refer to your address entered in your profile even when you are using MJ+ outside - Yes you can use MJ+ anywhere as long as you can hook it to your computer with internet - even when you are traveling but in such a case 911 dispatcher would not know your current location but would read your location as per your profile.

Hi,

I just got an MJ+, but can't port my existing number. Is there a limitation for Canada where you can't port the existing Canadian number? If so, I am going to return the MJ+, as I have had my existing number for quite some time, and changing this, on top of it communicating the new one to the family/friends would be a pain.

Disappointed, if I can't port my Cdn. number. Would rather go for Vonage.

Unless, someone could suggest a workaround :).

Oh! By the way, I am not technologically challenged. Searched for Magic Jack and this is the only recent related post I found :). lol...

Febpreeth,
There should be a lot of MJ threads floating around. I myself remember some 10-20 threads that were started in the last 6 years. However since I am not interested in MJ, I generally donot follow the threads.
There must be some mistake in the search engine.

Peace by Murali
