I was surprised when I saw this broadcast. The next question that comes to my mind is...How low will they go before it starts to affect the health of the general public there? How will they monitor or regulate such an industry that plays crapshoot with the lives of those that believe blindly that this Mithai is genuine stuff.

It beats me.

Please pass this around. Let every body come to know.

dont believe "NDTV" This channel is big brocker of anti india elements . NDTV chief editor Barkha dutt was caught in audio tap where she was lobbying for A.Raja for telecom ministry . Same lady took huge money from saudia arabia to publish and continuously broadcast 2002 gujarat roits which worsen india's image outside.
This channel is backing FDI in retail sector in india . It is their long term agenda in which they want to magnify all negative aspects of india and feels indians shame for their roots . They want to show that indian mithai is not healthy and that way they want to promote western chocolate culture . As indian mithai market is worth billions so all foreign chocolate companies are interested in it so they are funding like this anti indian channels .
We in india eat mithal in all festivals , may be it true that not all mithai shops are following all hygine std. BUT it is not true for all indian mithais .

I read some where about " Horlicks " this company prepare horlicks from waste of peanuts and sesame . They just add some chemicals and sugar and sell it in market at more than 10 times of factory cost .

To end my post I would like to request those CD members that dont believe what media says and format your mindset from " all indian things " are worst .

FSSAI http://www.fssai.gov.in/ They are specially empowered to watch over the health of the local population. This is an eye opener to them and a wake up call to do the constant vigilance that the market calls for there in India. http://www.fssai.gov.in/

It is for the Milk Marketing Board there in India to take action and sue the horse off these guys.

I watched NDTV after the 26th November incident there in Mumbai and as lately as a week ago on its fourth anniversary. I do not approve of their sensationalism but would like to bring to the attention of the people about the adulteration of a few of the products they use in their day to day consumption. This is an heads up to all.

Now to the other subject that you raised. :

""New Delhi, Nov. 26: India's food regulatory agency has indicted several household brands, including Britannia biscuits, Horlicks health drinks and Kellogg's breakfast cereals, for what it says are misleading claims about some of their food products.

The Union government informed Parliament today that the health ministry's Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated prosecution in 19 cases where companies have been charged with making misleading claims about their food products in either labels or advertisements...... in a statement laid in the Rajya Sabha.

Several of the complaints had been reported earlier but they have now been put in the public domain through the official statement in the House.

The FSSAI is expected to first send notices to companies that it believes have violated rules and wait for their responses before initiating prosecution. During the hearings, both sides ' the FSSAI and the company ' would have opportunities to argue their cases .. etc.,...""

This is just to inform you that I acknowledge the receipt of your personal mail to me here and I am glad to note that the webmaster is monitoring this web site here.

FH.

Adulteration in food items is a very well know fact and everyone is aware of it in India. It has some amazing consequences too. When I have talked to my family/friend this Diwali, most of them prepared their own sweets at home from raw milk (It is another debatable question how pure is the milk too). Happy to know that the adulteration has revived the old art of making home made sweets.

I heard about it first time in year 2000, about 12 years ago, but it has been going on even before that time. At that time it was called "plastic milk" and made from urea, etc. These things are very difficult to control in a country like India where corruption is rampant.

In Canada, some of items made from "modified milk ingredients" like cheese slices, yogurt, ice cream, etc., comes from outside Canada like China, US and New Zealand, but China also has also a questionable food safety record with adulteration with melamine.

Horlicks is a marketing gimmick in India anyway. All it has is some multivitamins added to some barley and wheat flour but marketed as very healthy food and must for growing children, pregnant women and elderly. I think taking a multivitamin pill would be better than adding Horlicks if you look at it from vitamins point of view.

Another marketing gimmick is Maggi Masala with the slogan "Taste Bhi, Health Bhi" and they roped in Big B in their ad too. It has chemical flavor enhancers, glutamate and high sodium content.

Be it North America or India, most of the packaged goods are produced very cheaply and have chemicals which are not proven to be safe.

In the end I would say eat more vegetables, drink less milk!

It was reported that even vegetables are altered.
Lauki injected with some chemical, growing exponentially larger overnight. etc.

There are around 7 billion people living on Earth with shrinking agricultural/farming land. In order to keep up with the food demand & keep prices low countries will have to rely on genetically modifying food/seeds/animals etc.

The worst happens in countries where due to corruption & lax laws adulterated food becomes a norm more specifically during festival's.

Sometimes Jokingly i think of living in a jungle & doing farming & raising cattle wish it was that easy.
