After dropping Modi, Wharton invites Kejriwal

Aam Aadmi Party Convenor Arvind Kejriwal will deliver a keynote address via video conferencing at the Wharton India Business Summit, CNN-IBN reported.

On 4 March, Wharton dropped Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi from its list of keynote speakers after a section of students and professors protested over having Modi as a speaker.

The forum had announced late last month that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi would be among its keynote speakers for the 23 March event.

In a strongly worded letter, students protesting against Modi said: “This is the same politician who was refused a diplomatic visa by the United States State Department on March 18, 2005 on the ground that he, as Chief Minister, did nothing to prevent a series of orchestrated riots that targeted Muslims in Gujarat.”

On Monday, an official statement from the Wharton India Economic Forum stated that Modi had been dropped from the list of keynote speakers. “As it stands currently, Mr. Modi’s keynote address at Wharton India Economic Forum has been cancelled.”

The 17th Wharton India Economic Forum will be held on 23 March at the Penn Museum in Philadelphia.

It is not yet known if Kejriwal has accepted the invite to speak at the Summit.

What I don't understand is why do Indians give so much weight to the opinions of these buffoons in the west? Does Modi really need certificates from these foreign institutions?

He has already been shunned by the American govt before. If he has any self-respect he should simply brush these Ivy league clowns aside and they will come crawling to him. This is the language west understands.

The only lesson western sponsored intelligentsia can impart to the developing world is to avoid their mistakes by just looking at the civilisational wreckage of west.

The stage is set, the game has begun. Whether the news is true or not, I wrote earlier that Arvind will start getting more attention ( while he appears to be against Congress), with his background, he would split votes that would otherwise go for Modi.

Lack of education and diplomacy is going to cost Modi. He would soon be invited for a debate with his contestants, Unlike many think Rahul would never come to the front, Chidambaram would suddenly become the candidate ( Does Prime Minister have any say, Huh!!!), Rahul will continue to operate as a Party General secretary. From one side Nitesh, Arvind from other side, Chidambaram from third angle would be a big challenge for Modi. His biggest battle would be the men from his own league would work against him.

Day by day, around the world vote politics is gaining momentum, sadly the reflections are already noticed in North America, the once civilized Europe has yielded itself to it. People seeking righteous life would be squeezed and driven back to woods.

Narendra Modi is quoted as saying that for him secularism means India first.

Whether it is poverty, education, employment, housing, price rise, crime, the problems faced by majority or minorities are the same. If anyone can alleviate on any or all of these it will be good for all of us.

But Congress and UPA will never let that happen. They will always keep the minorities in tenterhooks, they have equated pandering to terrorism infected Pakistan as euphemism for minority welfare. They are not bothered, if this has caused us more misery, tragedy in the form of more terrorist attacks. When the USA hardly had one after 9/11, we have had dozens and still it is going strong.

As reflected by a total disinterest in the electoral process by young voters.

The challenge for Indian right led by BJP is to consolidate the silent majority, which divides itself into small islands of minorities. These Hindu minorities are based on caste, region, language, urban clustering, rural politics etc.

Congress has a natural advantage as its primary objective is to divide and conquer. Dividing Indian vote bank needs less work than consolidating the Indian vote bank. That's the nature of India's body politic.

The right wing(BJP and allies) in India have a natural disadvantage built into their election campaign. The only way to overcome it is by good governance and charismatic leadership.

Modi represents both. But can he replicate Gujarat in other parts of India? The right needs breadth and depth in its leadership. They need more leaders.

It cannot win by maintaining a mirror image of Congress as proven in last two elections. Also, congress still has the brahmastra by way of AVM's.

LOL!

It was BJP which made a stupid move of Ayodhya temple movement. Rather than loonie Advani, some research should have been done to ascertain whether religion has primacy amongst Hindu. With 25% Muslim population and overall 40% non-hindu population, a political party which loves Hinduism cannot come to power ever. The non-hindu minorities are very conscious and committed to protecting and promoting their religious identity. So long as they remain hostile< BJP can never come back to power.

Nodi's talk about good governance and non-corruption is all in vain. Nobody gives a damn to it. Unless BJP appease Muslim (do wahtever it takes) voters, power will be their pipe dream. All the regional parties have spurned BJP bcs none of them can afford to align with BJP and alienate Muslim voters. BJP needs to be a lot "smarter".
