Manjit thanks a lot for this valuable info. It will be very helpful for us who will moving in future to canada. Manjit, i also work in abudhabi and has electronic stuff which operates on 220 Volts AC. Could you please tell what the voltage level there to operate electroninc, like TV CD players etc. Also tell how much does it cost for shipment, is it by weight or by pieces. Manjit as your name sounds, are u from Punjab, if yes from which place? You can also contact me on

Thanks once again and wish you a happy life there.

Hi all and specially to Dubai guys. I really miss dubai its like second home country.

I paid around $60 /Cubic metre + $5 war insurance/cubic Metre. So i roughly paid around Dh 1300.00 which is like $480 approximately. I would agree with mansavi to some extend. Its a big hassle to ship big items but when you dispose off your stuff in middleeast i guess you get nothing for your stuff. You will again have to spend dollars here, it hurts (specially if you are from middleeast) when you are paying 15 % tax on your purchases. . One will have to balance between comfort and expenses.

The reason i am suggesting to get your stuff is cause initial one month or so you will realize that money which to brought is not enough. I had to allocate $1000 for my credit card its must as credit history is key to most of the loans or financial assistance, deposit $ 1650 for rent (first and last month), deposit $200 for my phone , I stayed at b&b initially so i spent around $900 (rent), I ate out for 20 days and i spent around $500 and ofcourse you need to spare for travel as well. It might sound exorbant but its not according to canadian standards. Sofa and stuff like that is huge but i guess you will save still.

Yes sodhi sahib i am from jallandhar. Electronic items which work on 110 v should be brought. Dubai is best place to buy electronics. The stuff or models are almost the same here. Its all malaysian /singaporian etc stuff. Mostly items which run on dual voltage might have adapter supplied along with it. You can find adapters easily in dubai, you should start your search from city center. from Lals,Choitram , meena bazaar or ACE hardware.

I hope this helps to plan better
